In the late 1970s, there was a Canadian television series hosted by Dale Harney. Like the World's Greatest Magic of the 90s or Masters of Illusion today, it was nothing but magicians performing. Unfortunately, the original reels were lost; taped over by the studio to save money. But some of the episodes survived when in the 80s, Canadian magicians recorded them in re-runs on the first home VHS and Betamax machines. Magicana, working with Dale Harney, has spent the past year collecting and digitizing this footage and we're pleased to announce the launch of a new online exhibition dedicated to Dale Harney and The Magic Palace.

Just go to www.magicana.com/magicpalace and enjoy.

There are over 25 hours of video from over 60 performers, including but not limited to:

Albert Goshman
Johnny Thompson
Charlie Miller
Patrick Page
Billy McComb
Bruce Cervon
Daryl
Paul Harris
Harry Blackstone Jr
Jay Marshall
Karrell Fox
Marvin Roy
Max Maven
Ricky Jay
Topper Martin

If you have some time to spare this long weekend, go take a look.

What's with Dale's gloves? Is he hiding burns or something? They're really odd.

Because he knew the audience would recognize the added difficulty of manipulating the props with gloves on. So either you appreciate the skill, or you think, "There's no way he could be doing sleight of hand; he's got gloves on."

It becomes particularly apparent when you see him doing card manipulation:
