Here is a gag trick with a prop I have had for years. Once the person has the single card in his hand, tell him that most magicians make the card vanish but you are going further than that. Tell them to think of any card and that card will be on the card in their hand. Have them tell you the card and then open their hands. Inside their hands is a 52 on 1 card.

It's just not something I've yet found to achieve an "over the top" jaw-dropping, visceral reaction like we sometimes see on promo videos where folks obviously know they are on camera and their reactions determine what gets shown or dumped on the cutting room floor. And for me at least, that's perfectly ok. I need solid workers like this, which hit hard but don't completely fry an audience. What I particularly like about Rick's work, though, is that he seems to invest a lot of time and effort into breathing new life into tricks we've perhaps all forgotten or set aside. "Whitewash" and "Quarterly Report" are two other examples. I really like Rick's thinking and even if I don't use all his material that I've purchased (and I don't) his work inspires me to look deeper at the many items I've amassed over the years to find overlooked gems and breathe new life into them. |

I have been working on a more suitable presentation and I found that this works pretty well for great reactions:
I explain to the spectator if they ever wondered how magicians vanish cards and that I will show them. I explain that I have a couple of cards and to hold them sandwiched in their hand. I then explain that I will vanish a card but in slow motion. I then go through the motion of pulling a card out explaining that the hand is faster than the eye and Magicians know how to use very fast sleight of hand. As I pull the card out very slowly showing it then put it away in my pocket. I then explain that I will vanish the card still remaining in their hand at lightning speed or something to that affect. I then make a magic gesture and indicate that the card has vanished. Obviously they indicate that the card is still in their hand, but when they open it, the card is now blank on both sides and has indeed vanished. I like to use a KH or JH for the card that remains in their hand so they remember it. Regards... HD |

Rick's full routine is never actually shown on the video. Whatever he teaches of his "routine" is done in a choppy disjointed manner as he mentions some of what he says as he is going through the handling.
Some of what Mike posted and what I posted is similar to how Rick does it, but there are subtle differences. I wish I could make a more direct comparison, but Rick never actually teaches or shows his full routine on the video so we can't really know. Incidentally, I finally got the chance to do this trick for my wife and it went over very well. Very surprised look on her face when she saw that the card was blank, then she turned it over and saw it was blank on both sides and that definitely threw her. No big OMG reaction, but definitely hit her hard. Quote: On Jul 11, 2016, videoman wrote:

This is not really a reply but a comment.
When the trick is done, sign the card and let them keep it. Not only will the card remind them of the trick, but they also have your name. The more people who know your name the better it can be. Mike |

I usually love rick lax tricks.... but this one is a step behind his other creations.
Don't want to be misunderstood, it s a good trick anyway but in my opinion nothing outstanding. Plus could be cheaper just selling out the download.... the "gimmick" if you want call it gimmick is something all of us for sure has in our drawer. |

I prefer to use the gaff with a bicycle back so that I can avoid any chance of flashing when removing the first card later on.

I agree with both prior posts. I also use it with bicycle back, I think it is more natural. I get good reactions with this.

I haven't purchased this yet but I am tempted. I currently perform Imagine by G somewhat often. Do those of you that own this think it could or would be a good idea to do this trick first as a way of bringing a blank into play then have them sign the card and change it into a different one all together using imagine? Or is this overkill?

Using the blanks both sides is better as it's impossible to flash if performed correctly which is basically a self working effect anyhow . No way to back track if the card is blank both sides where as if a rider back etc is in play it is pretty obvious what the removed card was imo . Anyway not one of Ricks best collaborations with Penguin imho Tarik 😊
