Obvious to me how it works but thinking of the impact this will have on a paying audience & going to take David Corsaro's advise & buy the download & take advantage of the fact that Mark has used this alot.
It's the subtleties that make a good effect a great effect. Looks like a worker to me Mike Donoghue |

I watched the entire download last night and REALLY like this effect! Very commercial, clean looking and it is rare that I add something to my working repertoire but I am definitely going to use this!

This effect is not direct at all.
I'm going to sign a card, put it in the deck, shuffle, now you pick one, sign it, put it in the deck, then we'll spread the cards to see if we signed the same card...? That seems like a lot of really unnecessary stuff for the effect of "you picked the same card I did" or "I predicted you would pick that card" (whichever presentation angle you want to take) Why not just throw a card down on the table, ask them to name one, it's correct? Seems a lot more straight forward to me. |

But by all means if you have a better method than mine, please share with us. If you watch my routine it's all about a coincidence. It's about a spectator and a magician picking the same card and the 1 in 52 chance. The way it's performed allows for a building of suspense and a foreshadowing for the spectator to realize what the effect could be. When I perform the effect I use the line "now let's recap. I signed the face back of a card, you signed the face of the card. There can be two outcomes. Either we signed the SAME card and accomplished something impossible OR we just wasted 5 minutes of our lives" when the card is revealed to match, their reaction affirms the impossibility of the effect. But hey, if you have a clean method for your premise I would be glad to endorse yours over mine. Mark Calabrese |

Hey Mark,
I think your presentational angle works in terms of building up the suspense and then relieving it with the reveal. However, my style of performing is much more direct. I'm about hitting them hard and fast with a right hook. haha Yours probably plays much better in a theatrical sense. Maybe I should give yours a go and just see how it plays compared to the way I do this type of effect now. If you'd like to talk about my method for this type of effect, feel free to PM me. (although I highly doubt it's original) I'm always appreciative of another working pros feedback. Cheers, -Travis |

I've been playing around with this all day, this is a fun trick to perform. I like that there is wiggle room on how to get to the end goal. Good work Mark.

In reference to SNM's comment, I would say that you have a point. I would love to see your premise for your idea. As soon as I read your comment, I recalled Darwin Ortiz mentioning in Strong Magic that he saw no premise for changing the color of a knife. If you were a real magician doing real magic, what is the point of limiting the color change to a knife in your pocket. This got me thinking, and I came up with a perfect solution to making the color changing knife that has served me tremendously well over the years. But the point is that it compliments my character and has a presentation to it that supports the color change. Most of all it is the presentation and not just the direct magic - at least in my case. That is what I see with Mark's effect. He has ironed out all the nuances so that it fits perfectly with the performance. The method is very simple, but the theatrics is great. I think I can even do this fanning the cards in my hand if there is no table, giving the deck to the spectator to hold while I roll up my sleeves.
I'm not confused... I just don't know yet.

Just wanted to chime in that this trick is fantastic. I knew the core method, but bought it to learn the subtleties and THAT is what sells this trick and really disguises everything so nicely. Definitely recommend this!

I bought it a couple of days ago... its a nice effect, very well thought out. It is NOT "sleight free" as the AD says but, its nothing very difficult (just a warning for those thinking they are getting a "self-working" card trick). A good effect that I will use from time to time.
