Non-magic for this problem, but I'm sure the general knowledge could be applied. I'm in Arizona and my AC went out. Fan motor over the compressor has a wobbly shaft, so it's overheating and cutting out. Compounding the problem is the hex socket set screw in the fan blade collet is rounded out and stuck. It's possible we might be able to tap an Allen wrench deeper into the socket, but no guarantee it will come loose.
I'm assuming the fan blade collet is aluminum and the screw is some kind of steel. Would heat applied to the collet expand the collet enough to loosen the threads around the screw? (At stake is abut $120 for the fab blade.) Any help understanding metals here is greatly appreciated! Ed |

Just use a screw extractor. You might want to add a drop or two of something like Liquid Wrench first and let it work on the threads.

Not enough depth into the socket for the easy out to bite.
Wasn't worth the trouble, so I replaced it. Thanks for helping! Ed |
