Back when I was performing magic regularly I used to always borrow a spectators ring when performing my ring & string routine and used to finish with Mark Leveridges Fly-Ring which was a reel less ring flight.
Many years later having getting the magic bug again I have become interested in performing a ring & string routine again, I have many variations that I can choose from and have plenty of reel less impossible locations for the ring to end up in so no worries there. My dilemma is having seen Bob Millers Relentless routine, Jay Scott Berry's routine and Dan Fleshman's routine I'm wondering if I would be better off using my own ring for the effect ? If using my own ring I can always have the perfect ring at my disposal ie size , weight etc which would make thing easier, however I would probably opt for Dan Fleshmans idea of borrowing a spectators ring and then making it change into my ring so that I could still conclude the routine with a spectators ring to impossible location. That said I would love to hear other peoples thoughts on the subject ? |

I've heard it said many times; It don't mean a thing if you don't use their ring.
But - I've also seen everybody that does ring and string DROP the borrowed ring - on videos, during lectures ... it happens. Even magicians KNOWN for their ring and string routines occasionally drop the ring. I like your idea swapping your ring for theirs ... I prefer ring and rope with a big brass ring about 4 inches in diameter - can't lose it, and doesn't matter if you drop it and not something you'd borrow from anyone else. Oscar |

Thanks for your input Oscar. I too have a ring and cord routine with a nice larger ring around the size of yours that I've used for many years, I'm still more than happy with that routine as is
Back when I did use a borrowed ring I must have been either very lucky or just very careful as touch wood I've never dropped a spectators ring. |
