I am constantly trying to better my lead generation and promotional materials. I am not a full time magician so I try to keep the cost of promotional materials as low as I can. Since I do try and keep cost down I do not have a “packet” to send out. I try and use my website to do that for me. With that being said, what kind of things would you recommend me to have in a lead generation letter or a small packet to hand out to potential customers?
I am going to a camp fair on Saturday and I am in the process of getting some things together besides just my business cards to give to the camp directors. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tim Gaines P.S. I am putting the finishing touches on my website. Right now most of the links are finished but not published. If anyone would like to take a look at it and give any comments that would be greatly appreciated also. |

Tim:
I have a method for creating a packet that looks great and is easy to do as well as keeps your cost down and you can also modify it to your intended target market. It might work well for you. First, I am assuming you have a logo design business cards and stationary. If you do not, you will want to get these created first and get them looking great for you. Once you have those items done, I get some black glossy, double pocket folders. These are the ones with two pockets on the inside and slits in one pocket to hold a business card. If you buy them in bulk, your costs go way down. Next you create what I call Info. sheets or sell sheets. Each sheet covers a particular topic your prospect might be intersted in. The idea is to answer their who, what, when, why and how questions that they will have of you and the shows you do. Some of the sheets that I use are: - Bio - Awards and Honors - Client Listings - Client Quotes - Kyle and Kelly Difference (my various packages) - Advertising sheet - has my logo and artwork and files they can use for advertising my show at their event This gives you some ideas of what each of your sheets can cover off on. Use one sheet for each of your topics. Then you print these sheets on your printer and onto your stationary. By doing this, each sheet looks professional and also keeps your name, logo and contact information fresh in their minds no matter what sheet they look at or pull out of your kit. Even if they show one sheet to someone else, they will still see your logo and information. This is important for brand recognition. You then can print out your logo as a sticker and place that on the front cover. Print out a nice sales letter on your stationary and hand sign each one. I hope this helps. Kyle

Tim,
Why don't you tell us what you actually have in your letter right now? Also, once your website is done let me know and I'll be happy to go through it if you'd like. BTW - great picture on the main page. Do you juggle? Robert Bloor

Thanks for your help Kyle. I am going to see what I can get together tonight from office depot.
Robert, I will try and post my letter or part of it later tonight. I am at work and do not have a copy of it. The picture is actually a pose that I did for a billiard ball routine I used to do. I have taken it out of my act for the time being since I have not been doing as many shows and the routine takes a lot of practice. The extent of my juggleing is three balls in my stratosphere routine. I will post when I finish the site. I am waiting on new pictures to publish but I think I might publish it without the new pictures. thanks guys for the help. tim |

Hi Tim, I must compliment you on the work you have put into your Website. I like several of your ideas.
I would suggest you change your copy from all CAPS! to lower case. Some people see this as screaming! Using your Website to promote the details of your services is the direction I have taken. Here you can put as much information as you wish and change it and make corrections at anytime. To answer your question, I would use postcards. What you really want is to get any prospective client to go look at your Website. If you can create a postcard which easy to read with just enough information to grab their interest and get them to go to your site, then you now have the most effective way and less costly way of advertising. Steve,
Thanks for the input on my website and lead generation. My next project will be postcards. I have just about finished my website until I can get all the pictures added. I did not think about the all caps being screaming. I will probably change that tonight. Anymore comments would be greatly appreciated. Tim |

Two things I would do (added to the advice already given):
1. Put your testimonials link at the top of the navigation menu. This is one of the most important things that customers need to see (really, even more than a description of your services). I would also add more testimonials on that page. One is not really enough. 2. Have a "call to action" (ask the reader to call you, or email you, or respond and take action in some way) on every page where you describe your services. Put this as your final sentence on every show description. Don't just put that on the contact page. You'll sell more shows this way. Hope this helps you. - Donald. P.S. Besides all caps being interpreted as shouting, it is also difficult to read.

Comment about the postcards: I've also used postcards to great effect. I use full color 4x6 cards. The current ones I use are filled with quotes and my web address is listed at the bottom line with "See over 100 references at ..." Postcards are cheap and easy to mail. There are certainly occasions where a full packet is appropriate, but postcards also have their advantages. Then I just print a set of labels for any customers or prospects who have shows coming up in the next couple of months. I mail them. Clients call me.

When do you find yourself using postcards the most and what seems to be the best way? Do you mainly tend to use them for repeat customers or do you also use them as lead generation to spark interest?

Hi Tim,
Just came from your site. I like the layout a lot. May I suggest some photos of you performing close-up with smiling, laughing and jaw-dropped customers. Put one or two on each page. This along with the testimonials will go far. Also, get a picture with you smiling on your splash page. You'd be suprised at how a smiling face effects people who come to your site for the first time. Regards, Brady |
