Hello everyone. My wife and I are having to stay out on the road for three months this time so we can be home for Christmas. So we decided to take a couple days off in Vegas the week of Thanksgiving. I was wondering what days are best to catch street performers this time of year. We will be there for four days and are considering this an educational vacation as we are going to make the transition into busking next year. Thanks for the help

Any day is pretty good here... I personally won't be working the day before Thanksgiving or on Thanksgiving day, but other than that, I'll be out and I suspect so will everyone else. The temperature should still be good... high around 65-70 or so, so you'll still catch some decent weather here... maybe higher, you never know !!!
Starting times for the street performers (especially magicians) will be getting earlier by than. I'll probably be starting in the afternoon and end by early evening. Busking times vary widely here according to the season (temperatures). As it gets closer and you know your schedule, let me know the days you'll be here and we'll be sure to get together... bring something to perform at my show while you're here, if you'd like to. |

We could also c9me the 7-10th instead of 21-24th. Would that be a better idea or should we include a weekend day in there. Everything is kinda fluid right now. We could even go 28th-1st.

Of the dates you gave, I would pick the 7-10th. While weekends are much busier, you'll certainly see lots of action here and get a great feel for things... Probably the worst of your choices would be immediately after Thanksgiving.

Turns out I'll be in Vegas next week for business. Was hoping to watch some folks.
Heard of Fremont street...anywhere else?

Hi imgic... The strip (where I work) has many street performers and some very good magicians. IMO you'll find the better magicians on the strip as opposed to Freemont Street. Freemont Street is loud, hectic and regulated for performers. The "Strip" lends itself much better to performing a show and making money... again, just my educated opinion.

Stupid question...but where is best part of strip? Looking at map, I'm guessing Las Vegas Blvd. is "The Strip" but have heard there's upper and lower strip.
Whats cross street (if any) that might have best buskers? Never been to Vegas, so sorry for the noob questions...

Yup, the strip is a part of Las Vegas Blvd. From Harrah's Hotel Casino all the way to the MGM Grand (just over 2 miles) is pretty active for street performers and costume characters of all types. Narrowing it down, probably the best stretch is between the Flamingo Hotel and Planet Hollywood (about 1 mile). Within that area you'll see some really good performers of all types... and a bunch of not so good ones as well... but, since you've not been here before, I'm sure you'll enjoy seeing all (most) of them. There are almost always a few magicians out at night. I'm usually in front of the Paris Hotel Casino...
The "Freemont Street Experience" is certainly worth seeing if you have time to get there... it's "Old Las Vegas" and has 3 stages with bands, street performers, casinos (the Golden Nugget being the biggest and best) and a host of costume characters... it's also very loud and hectic there... but fun if you're in the mood. |

I know that Matthew and his mentor (whose name I never got, sadly) work outside the MGM Grand. He mentioned that because he works outside the Grand, the management has determined that he is not allowed WITHIN the building for any reason whatsoever. It's private property, it's their right, but it sucks.
