I am thinking about taking one of my Vernet balls and taking it apart at the seam, spraying the inside with cooking spray and filling it with 100% silicone caulk and see if I can get a solid ball made. Anyone ever try something like this?

I suspect the silicone caulk may not 'cure' properly. It cures when exposed to the air, and the inner sections may not harden evenly...

Won’t work. The materials and the process won’t cut it.
About 20 years ago I spoke with Frank about how he made balls and he explained everything from tints to rockwell hardness to mold making AND the process of making the balls. Doing what you've outlined is no where near what it would take to make a nice ball - with a nice seam. Also the material isn’t the same, the silicone from the tube will not bounce well… the weight would be somewhat similar however. But I do admire your creative desire. You never know till you try.

If you get the right RTV it will cure. You might by addition cure RTV. This is a 2 part RTV wher eyou mix in a catalyst that will cause the silicon to cure. You can often times find RTV that you can use at jeweler supply shops as this the RTV they use to make molds have the characteristics you're looking for. It should be noted that you will likely have a problem with a sprue that will be left on your ball. This comes from the point where you pour in your RTV. Lastly, it should be noted that you want to make the ball either under vacuum or pressure that can help get rid of any bubbles in your RTV.

Take a look at www.reynoldsam.com for lots of casting, molding, and facricating tips and videos. They have a material suited for making a mold, as well as for casting. You ought to be able to get the materials you need for about $50 more or less. Check them out.

I was able to make one a long time ago but I had to glue two half balls together.
