Light Storm is Mayne's newest illusion plans. I don't have the book yet but I was wanting to know if anyone had it then is it worth making for sixty dollars.
Thanks |

I don't have it but it is easy to know from the pic. It could certainly play off good if presentation and angle are right in my opinion. Beware of the ever lurking performance rights issues mayne sometimes has. He mentions in a description it is based off someone elses principle.

He said it was based on an old gag. He and Rand Woodbury worked on the idea and they came up with Light Storm. That's all I know. I'm probably way off.
Andrew is a clever guy. Light Storm looks incredible. Kinda like Interlude.

Looks interesting. Had me fooled for a second, but if it works like I think it does, it is based on an old principle. Definitely a clever idea for that principle, though.

When I first saw the advertisement for "Light Storm" I started to laugh! The reason is because it was so darn goofy that it will work! I really like this old idea.
It would be great as a "Throw Away" in your act. Anyway, I also have an idea that may make it more magical, then maybe not! I posted this elsewhere but think that someone else may like this idea. Replace the cover with a paper-covered frame that has a large bulls eye painted on it. Person A holds the cover in front of his/her chest. Person B enters and pulls out a large silk or ribbon from their pocket. Holding the silk/ribbon in his left hand he steps next to person A. Music kicks in as person B raises his right hand up behind and above the head of person A. Suddenly he lowers that hand and rams it through persons A's back and though their chest bursting out the front of the paper covered bull’s eye. After wiggling his fingers for a moment, person B then transfers the silk/ribbon from his left hand to his right. Waves it around and then slowly pulls it back through person A's chest. As the last bit of the silk/ribbon is pulled through the paper covered bulls eye, person A swings the bulls eye down and to the side with his right hand. Allowing the spectators to see the last five to 8 inches of the silk/ribbon entering his chest! Person B then pulls the silk/ribbon completely through person A and strikes a stance with the silk/ribbon held high in back of person A as Person A falls to their knees holding their chest. Light fades... Just an idea. Ray |

I have recieved the manuscript and it doesn't dissappoint. Clever idea. Most of us probably own the gimmick and most likely its sitting in a drawer collecting dust.
The manuscript is detailed and has plenty of photos. For the 15 bucks or so you pay is a bargain for the illusion plan. Great effect! |

Paul Osborne had a "longer" similar idea in the evolution and revolution of the magic box.

Hello Everyone,
I just made two “Light Storms” giving each one a different look (Paint job). What I had found is that when the light is behind you it shines through the cloth. The spectators can see your body through the cloth very well. They can also see the path of the light as it comes through your body. This is not what you or I want! If you find the time to make up “Light Storm” be sure to add an additional cloth on the back of your board. This cloth needs to be able to stop the light from shining through. Of course, there is other way to get by this. Just have the assistance turn the light off for a moment. This is done to make it appear as if the light is really passing through your body. If the light really did pass through your body, then there would be a moment when the light would not shine. This may be the better way to go, and to me makes more sense. I have also placed a green light on each side of me. These lights shine toward the spectators. This will help defuse the sight lines. Because there is one bad angle I felt that if I placed a light on that side a few feet from me it would make it harder to see the side of my body/arm. Just like black art, only I am using GREEN LIGHT ART. LOL. If you do not want to use two other lights on stage, then you could add little side wings to the board. Just use tape to hook the sides wings onto the main board! These two wings would be pointing toward the rear. This will give you much better sight lines. You would then have to hold the board from the top. Ray |

Good ideas Ray,
Also my suggestion is to use thick Spandex {black}. I use it for my Big Black box and it does not allow light. |
