Hi all,
This is my first post on the Café, and as such I am happy to meet you all! I am considering purchasing the Full Bloom set of books by Gaetan Bloom, but have slight reservations at the moment. Could anyone who own the set tell me if the book contains sections and essays on theory & performance, and if so, are they valuable for the close-up worker? I understand that this is Gaetan's lifetime work, and as such is doubtlessly worth $150, but I am more of a close-up guy so am unsure if this value will translate to my work. Cheers! |

Hi !
Welcome to this wonderful forum. Enjoy all the sections and great guys here. I have the two books in front of my eyes. There is no specific chapters on theory. Gaëtan is more a craftsman than a theorician. But the contents are awesome. Bloom is a genius. Really. His solutions to impossible problems are very clever and practical. They are idiosyncratic too. So you need to study thoroughly his creations to extract and synthetize his approaches and views of the art (to read between the lines as we say). No matter what you like in magic, you will appreciate and learn a lot in those volumes. Hope it helps |

Have you read the Books of Wonder by Tommy Wonder and Stephen Minch?
There's excellent theory in those books for you. |

Yes I have read the Books of Wonder! I completely agree; those are incredible books!
Rachmaninov, would you say Gaetan's Impossible solutions are applicable specifically to card magic? Cheerio! |

There is a good bunch of card tricks in there. From close up to cabaret. I would not say that the principles used are widely transversal. Rather specific to the situation. But to be honest, I've read a part of the books only. I've not studied them yet. So maybe someone here can give you a more precise answer.
