From what I remember while it's a nice prop and an astonishing experience it has a very "trick" feel to it.

Love the prop but never loved the reactions UNTIL I started treating it as a "trick"
Specifically, I've been getting better reactions performing this as a trick - I show the coin with the gem in the same spot on both sides, then one gem "magically" shifts to the spec's sign Nice as the prop looks, I think it's just too gimmicky looking to pass for mentalism |

Strikes me that you have a 1 in 6 chance of guessing spectator's sign, so some routining and fishing must be required. Prop looks nice but seems a bit expensive.

If properly presented, you convey that you only had a 1 in 12 chance.

This is NOT impressive as a stand alone piece.
However, when presented as a way of finding someone who is "in tune" with you for the purpose of more involved demonstrations, it makes sense. Julie |

The fact that there is 11 others holes means to me and I guess most of people that the gem is jumping through them at will. So it feel like a magic trick.

May be this is something your grandmother gave to you to find compatible people. So, you ask for the sign and yes you have a connection with them since you have the same sign on the other side of your sign...

The key is not to rush the performance of this effect.
First, show the box and flash the coin inside. Once you learn the participant's sign, do the business and wait. Talk about signs and the compatibility of certain signs. Talk about what your sign is and how it relates to the participant's. Then, show the coin and how the gem marks both your sign and the participant's. Present it like a trick, and it's perceived as a trick. Present it as a foray into the compatibility of astrological signs, and you have something truly baffling. In my Lithomancy routine, I put the box in play at the very beginning, learn the participant's sign very early on, do a variety of effects involving gemstones and astrological signs, and use the box as the final climax. Because of the huge amount of time misdirection involved, it appears that I've been totally hands-off for the entire time.

ThomasP, do you actually own this apparatus? Have you performed it? What is your experience performing before an audience?
