I have found 2" rings at lowes, located by the bulk rope. Most of the routines I have seen use much larger rings, possibly 3 - 4". If anyone knows where I can find a larger ring, off the shelf, please let me know.

Maybe try a marine supply store...they carry sailing equipment and might have large rings.

If you go to hardware stores, they sell thick key rings, but the "key clip" is pretty thin and easy to bend or cut, so it comes right off. These are a little over 3 inches. (I know because I've put my acrylic juggling sphere through which is 3 inches in diameter. You can find them in silver or in gold. (color, not material)
P.S. They're about two or three dollars. VERY good deal. I love mine. |

Thanks everyone for the info, especially Vinny for the offer. Today I went to an old style of hardware store and found a beautiful 3" chrome plated ring and also a brass 2" ring. They were out of the brass 3" rings at the present. It had been a while since I was in a regular hardware store and didn't think they could have more stock than a lowes or home depot. I was wrong.
Also, Hobby Lobby carries 3" brass colored rings that are 1/8" thick. They are too light for what I wanted to do with a ring/rope routine, but might make someone a closeup linking ring set for about $1.50. Bill |

Go to a Tack store. I found some great solid brass rings at one a few years ago.

Tack suppliers are always a good resource. Otherwise, if there is a saddlery in your area they usually have rings of all different sizes. Failing that, go to your local friendly machinist and tell them what you want. Sometimes you can get a pretty good deal that way.

There is a lot of overlap in tack suppliers and saddleries in some parts of the country. If you live in a large city that has an agricultural community on the outskirts, you might want to check some of the farm and ranch stores.

Hello
I have found the best rings to be harness rings which you can find at some leather or saddle shops. These rings I have are 3 inches in diameter and very heavy. They are very nice looking and because they are poured there is no seam. Walking Bob |

I used the 4th ring from the "close-up chinese linking rings" set for almost a decade before I had one custom made for me.

El Duco is a dealer from Sweden. The website is in English. He have a big ring that is also have a sturdy frame. It is very light but looks heavy and works both for close up and stage. It is made specially for routines with ring and ropes.

Go to a Target store and get the yard horseshoe and ring toss toy kit. Plastic rings about 5 in. diam. work great for Columbinnis Ring/Rope routines.

Home Depot use to sell the heavy 4" ring as curtain rings. Also La Rock's in Charlotte NC has shown them in their catalogs.

For very nice plastic rings...
The Aldo Colombini routine "Still Ringing" comes with a 5 inch ring and a piece of rope. The ring is identical to ones I've found at Walmart in the craft aisle. They come in pairs for under 5 dollars and are labeled "purse handles." You might look for them at larger craft supply shops and maybe at well stocked sewing stores. You can find a huge assortment of these seamless plastic rings in various sizes and colors by going to your favorite web search engine and entering either of these... round plastic purse handles plastic craft rings They are mostly smooth but some have textures like bamboo or beaded effects. They come in sizes from a couple inches up to 8 inches or more. The 4 to 5 inch sizes seem especially common. There are many choices of colors in solids, translucents, and even some striped and swirl patterns. One type I found looks a lot like jade and would lend itself to some exotic patter themes. These "craft rings" are extremely sturdy since they are often used for purse handles. Several other craft projects use these rings including the very common "dream catcher" woven string and ring things. (Another possible patter theme there?) The prices seem to vary a lot but are mostly under 10 dollars. Many are as cheap as a couple bucks per pair. Greg |
