"Super Circus"starring Claude Kirschner and Mary Hartline was a children's variety show on TV from 1949-1956 on ABC. Does anyone know if any magicians appeared on that show?
Here's a link to a youtube video with a number of circus acts, but no magician: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o22HKYhdj9k And here's a link to a jpeg image of a "Super Circus" comic book that I posted on the IBM Ring 103 Norfolk facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/338764602812514......&theater ----- Amado "Sonny" Narvaez

One of the last living 10-in-one performers. I wanted to be in show business the worst way, and that was it.

Thanks Ringmaster!
You reminded me that Jack also did the old sideshow "four legged girl" on one of the shows. Being done in Chicago, I'm fairly sure that there must have been other magicians, but, I only saw the show a few times. I think he also did a blade box, there, too. BOZO, on WGN for about 30 years, had every magician in the area! Jay Marshall was the "stand by act". Since Magic Inc. was only a couple miles from the studio, Jay could fill in, when an act didn't show up, on 30 minutes notice! Whenever I was coming into Chicago, I would phone Howard Schultz, and, he would book me. (Three or four agents supplied talent on a rotating basis, so many magicians played that date. I don't remember how many times, I did it, but, I remember that when a client called Magic Inc. for a magician, if Frances told the client that any of us in the "pool" had done Bozo, it was a guaranteed booking.

If the late Gene DeVoe did the same thing that Frances did in Chicago for St. Louis Magicians who "did" the Corky The Clown Show on KSD-tv in St. Louis......I would be a rich man right now! (smile) |

I dropped in on Gene on a Friday afternoon. We were visiting, and, he asked if I would be around for the weekend. I said that I was heading for Roy and Bernice's home in E. St. Louis.
"Great!...I'm working the showboat tomorrow night. How about coming along? We could do some schtick together!" I said, "Sure! I've never worked a showboat!" So, the Mayers and I had a swell morning and afternoon. I drove across the river in late afternoon, and, met Gene. It was a "dinner theater". We did some comedy bits, and, had a good time. Gene was on between the acts of a 3 act comedy. Every time a boat passed the showboat, the ship would rock. The chandelier, on stage, would swing back and forth. All the actors onstage would sway with the ship's motion. It was a funny bit! And, I can note in my memoirs, that I worked a showboat!
