I'm after a maroon close-up pad, rectangular with a velvet or pseudo velvet finish.
I've checked the threads on this and found out what a lot of people like but I haven't managed to locate the above. I'm after something of top quality, not made to order, not a mouse pad - and definitely maroon. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks PS. (It's so hard to tell from web site photos what the mats look like but the Gibson green pads look good as a 2nd option as the green looks really dark - am I right?)

If you are looking for something that will hold up and look like velvet why not make your own pad?
I made a table (similar to the L&L tables) that was larger and lighter than anything that I saw on the market. For the surface I used maroon velvet that I purchased from the fabric store and used a closed cell packing material under the velvet for the loft of the "Pad" . This was mounted to a piece of plywood with staples. It has served me VERY well and I have had other magicians admire it. Just be sure that you secure everything in one step at a time so that you won't end up with wrikles and bubbles in the surface. I would also recommend glueing the initial packing material to the plywood. It makes for a more stable surface. |

Hi Andrew:
Are you looking for a pad that you can roll up, or a tabletop-like pad? If you're looking for a table-top type, I have one that I bought from MagicSmith, and have never used. It's burgundy/marroon velvet with beautiful finished edges. It has sat in my closet ever since I bought it - I paid $80.00 for it at the time. I'm not looking to give it away for practically nothing, but if you're interested, I'll make you a deal. Just PM me. It's in mint condition. BTW, the size is about 15" by 22". Ron |

Andrew,
I just purchased one from Hocus Pocus Magic during their 25% sale. It usually sells for $75.00 , but I got it for about $57.00. It's maroon velvet and is on a padded foam board with non-slip feet on the bottom and it is the same size as the largest close-up mat you can buy. I was very pleased with the excellent quality.
