Hi everyone. Just wondered which types of coins, particularly in the U.K., people favour using. I haven't done much with coins, but believe Bobo's book may well be finding its way to me soon😉

Personally, I don't think it really matters. Most currencies will have corresponding "gaffs" as required, so it's really down to your personal preference - there is no right or wrong answer.
I use Walking Liberty Half Dollars and IKE Dollar coins myself, although I'm a UK magician. I used to think that the audience would be bothered if I didn't use £2 coins etc, but they don't give a hoot! As long as the audience can examine the coins to see they are genuine, I think that's all they are really bothered about. Good luck, and welcome to the wonderful world of coin magic.
Magically,

Thanks for the reply. That was my worry really, that people would be bothered by not using U.K. Currency. Are half dollars thinner than UK coins? Does this make them a little easier to manipulate at all?

American halves are the same size as an old English penny, making them the oerfect pair for Copper/Silver work. People in general are far more interested in what you are doing with the coins, then what currency you use. If anyone asks about a foreign coin, just let them handle one.

Hi Newsround,
British Crown is a good coin to use. About the same size as a US$. Not much in the way of gaffs......but you really don't need gaffs IMHO. I've used some '65 Churchill Crowns while in your side of the pond. They're heavy and great for misers dream. Old english pennies work nice for matrix. A handful of these and Bobo's and you're good to go, at little expense |
