I find that sometimes my hands are just to slippery for coins, escpecially after washing them. Now with cards it was suggested that I use hand lotion twice daily, but this seems to cause havoc with my coin work. Just wondering if anyone has any tips on getting my hands to an un-slippery state, or could suggest any good products??

I would try using chalk dust. The kind people use in sports. Lightly rub it on your hands and that might help.

If your trouble is with Classic Palming the coins, here's something you should find helpful. David Roth offers an excellent tip in his lecture that I have found to be most useful. Go to your local music store (the kind that sells instruments, not the kind that sells CD's!) and get some violin rosin. Put this on the edges of the coins. It's almost impossible NOT to palm them.

Something else to consider is how much nervousness plays in slippery hands. When I used to do magic I had a terrible time with damp hands and losing coins in classic palm, but as I gained confidence it no longer was a problem, even though there are still times when I'm nervous. Continuing to refine your technique and build your confidence may go a long way to helping clear up your problem.
I think all of us need to guard against the "My hands/fingers are too [fill in the blank] to [fill in the blank]." Think of Renee Levand, who has a better reason than anybody to give up on sleight-of-hand, yet the guy is incredible. |

Go to a Kmart of Walmart and get yourself those little travel size bottles of baby powder. That will help keep your hands dry and smelling fresh as a babys bottom and keep a small 100% cotton hankie in your pocket just in case.

There are many sprays around on the internet. Go to a magic site and they're usually under the "accessories" heading.

Mine isn't nervousness. I've never been nervous performing coin magic and the reason is simple, never done it! If my hands get too sweaty to palm a coin when I'm practicing I won't even be able to hang on to it in front of a crowd.

Hi Ravi,
I use Chamberlain Golden Touch Lotion! It will not come off on your cards & coins, and it's what Marlo used! It's made by Chamberlain's Lotion Des Moines, lowa 50322. I have real dry hands and it's always worked for me! I always cary a small dropper bottle in my back pocket! Hope this helps! Hi Ryan, If that doesn't work you might try what Vito Lopo does. He uses Coin Huskers Lotion. From Warner-Lambert Consumer Healthcare Moris Plains NJ. He puts it on at night before he goes to bed and puts some light cotton gloves on over it so his hands soak in it overnight. You might try that! Best David Neighbors The coinjurer |

Thanks Scott, I decided to give the Rosin a try, and it seems to be working well. I almost feel like I am cheating tho. The cool thing about Rosin is that it gets sticky when heated. So in your hand it is sticky, put it on the table for a minute, then let a spec handle the coin, and it won't be sticky. The only problem is that it is hindering my mussle pass practice..

I like the Rosin idea. Cheap and effective.
I was just performing close-up outdoors at a baseball stadium in Sacramento 2 days ago and a spectator walked up after a group left and said he was REALLY interested in magic so I showed him Cylinder And Coins. The temperature was 108F that day, talk about sweaty/slipery hands. The misdirection was easy because it was for just one person and it's a good thing. I had coins sliding around all over the place. Look, there I am  trying to keep the coins doing what I needed them to do. The moral of the story is don't do Cylinder and Coins when the temperature is over 100F I think I'm still sweating. frank
