I will say, I'm pretty sure this is the same procedure I learned back when I was a teenager and read Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft.

Can't remember the guys name, he's Scottish and a occultish wizardy fella - he also drew/wrote for 2000AD - there's a lecture by him on youtube that goes on about sigil creation amongst other stuff...kinda interesting...
