No matter what your position is on what caused this, it's still a very sad day!

Lots of fond memories there. Both my own from my youth, and passing on the tradition by taking my daughter there for her birthday. Oddly enough, maybe 150 years ago or more, Buffalo Bill's (Yes the "Buffalo" Bill Cody) wild west circus show closed for the same monetary reasons. The only difference was that no one was on his back for mistreatment of animals.

Very sad indeed but we do know somebody whose father owns a relatively small circus here and they seem to be doing very well.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Sad…. but I’ll always have the memories of taking my older children to the circus… What a GREAT opportunity to have had…. As a clown, I always thought clowns were here on this side of heaven to ease the pain…

What a bummer. Never had a chance to see this circus, but still sad to see them go, though groups like Cirque will carry the torch on I suppose.

Big Apple filed for bankruptcy today. Maybe on of those guys with half the money in the world could buy them as a hobby.
If your hobby loses money, you can take a tax break for three years.
One of the last living 10-in-one performers. I wanted to be in show business the worst way, and that was it.

The circus has employed many a magician through the decades, including our own Alex Ramon as a ringmaster. Lynn

I guess there is a virtual circus somewhere.

Quite sad indeed. I'm happy that I was able to experience things like the Barnum and Bailey and Big Apple Circuses, as well as Seaworld in my youth. They represent a form of entertainment that akin to to vaudeville will soon be solely a thing of the past and not something that new generations will be able to experience.

I first saw the "WAIT BROS SHOW" IN '46 in Milwaukee. ("Wait Bros" was the bill posters' slang name for the Ringling show. In the old days, when Ringling was booked to play a city soon after another (smaller) show was playing that same town, the billposters would paste a "WAIT for the BIG SHOW" strip across the "24 sheet hits"! ($HOW BU$INE$$ !!!)
I wrote up a brief anecdote about that wonderful day in my book. I met the late Charlie Roark (doing Punch & Judy) and, the late, 'Red' Friend (magic). It was the finest side show, that I ever saw! --The Big Show, in a "6 pole top" wasn't bad, either!!! I do think that the little "mud shows" will continue to play the high grass towns, and, hopefully, keep "circus" alive. I still remember those little mud shows, like Parker & Watts, Bud E. Anderson, Arthur Bros, Mills Bros! The Bud E Anderson side show magician taught me my first trick that I learned from a professional magician, (that trick is now known as the "Slydini Knots".) When I visited the Mills show, in the '40s, and, asked for professional recognition, Jack Mills, standing under the Marquee, reached down, picked up a popcorn box, tore off the lid, and scribbled: "OK 1 RS JM" on it. (For "townies" that translates to: "OK 1 Reserved Seat, Jack Mills") Years later, I bill posted Gopher Davenport's "Dailey Bros"). Then, I booked, and, promoted Franzen Bros, and Circus Girard. Both Wayne Franzen, and Girard Soules are now up in the 'big lot', but Brian Franzen is still on the road with the big cats, and, OKHA, the only elephant that stands on a 3' ball, and walks it across the ring. I still have 'sawdust in my shoes'! See ya, 'down the road'!

A very sad day. I had a cousin who was a circus performer. He performed with the Circus of Monte Carlo at one time.
