The threads on various vanishes have been interesting.
This "Reader and Righter" has not been a frequent user of ROV I have used things like T. P. and a turn off the wrist to show the back of the hand. At least that is what is perceived by my audiences. I also have used the toss vanish for 4 decades. I love that the mind can "see the coin fall" A story of a bar magician (chicago I think) comes to mind. For a night he was replaced by a fantastic finger flinger When the regulars were asked about the replacement. They replied yeah he was OK or good but bring back Matt S ( or it might have been another of the classic greats I think the story has the Non PC bit of bring back the fat guy. History and words above are a bit jumbled as is my brain. Perhaps his top palm was not the greatest , but his timing - direction and connection with his audience was. My father in law is in Hospice so my priorities are a bit different.

Thanks for that post
Been a lot of hurt feelings and negativity in some of the other stuff I've read. Totally agree regarding proper misdirection timing and connecting with the audience. I'm sorry to hear about your father All the best E |

T. P. Refers to tenkai
My audiences are mostly teens at school. They are "kind enough" to tell me with jaw drops or current teen wow words or when they see something. One recently gave me THINK - before posting or talking Is it True Helpful Inspiring Necessary Kind I'm working on the necessary the most. Thanks E.
Charlie (actually my father in law) has been super supportive of both my magic and musical arts. Building relationships is important on stage. It is also important in connecting and keeping consumers. This is as true with consumers of my Dr. Laugh programs as it is with school administrators. Perhaps this thread could be in the business of magic section?

You and your words are appreciated. My uniqueness sometimes connects other times a teen will honestly ask. Mr. Deutsch, what are you talking about. This has happened here on the Café as well. I smiled at one of your recent comments in another thread "What's old is new" HLD

I stand on the shoulders of those that came before.
Living near Kansas City, I have been blessed to see great lectures as they came through since the mid 70's. Ring 129 has a great mixture of old school and new school coin workers. My favorite feedback, was not a compliment on my SOH, but one of my mentors telling me my close up program had heart. HLD Palms of aluminum foil, for a lighter touch in coin magic

I am sensitive to the recent death in your family. My brother has had trouble with his heart for some time. After seeing doctors, getting pacemakers and replacing them because a two wire didn’t work, having small slices in the top of his heart because it was beating to fast; his heart finally stopped and he had to wear a heart pump around his neck. He was also wearing a battery pack, control system to keep him alive. About a month ago he took his own life with a 22 pistol. Unfortunately, the heart problem is genetic and I share the same problem. I just had my 74th birthday. Like you say, tragedies offer a different point of view of life. Do not think I am seeking sympathy. I savor everyday. I enjoy looking into the eyes of the woman I love. I often take the time to just look around me and value the small things that occupy my space. Sometimes it is even the snow that fell on my car. Trust me; I am having fun in what I do.
You do not seem to appreciate the little joke I offered. It is very cerebral and VERY, VERY FUNNY.

Along with my other uniqueness, I don't always get jokes especially in print. Sometimes even face to face. Al. I appreciate your contributions in magic over the decades. and above transparencies. One of my most used "move" besides tenkai is the Pop Up. Your tip about hand placement last year Re: the pop up with a coin had me rechecking how I was doing it. I smiled when I realized I was still doing it as you wrote. Though much better, I still have to check with the woman I love to see when she is joking. One of the funniest thing is at work I get lots of referrals of teens on the spectrum. Probably just funny to me.

For those of you realizing that our magic can come to an end,
I recommend the writings of C S Lewis. He said that the moments we have, of recognizing that there is something better and more grand that we are made for, that should give us the desire to seek Him. |
