They managed to transform an offhand comment from an anonymous source about something McCartney once did at a party into a full-length article. |

If he wants to call himself 'Sir' I don't think he wants to be one of us!
The real greats said 'No,thank you' to being called 'Sir' or to accepting an MBE. I'm thinking of John Lennon, David Bowie, Keith Richards and Paul Weller.

John accepted his. He later turned it in out of protest, but he did accept it.
And I don’t think the MBE confers a knighthood. That’s a different honor completely.
