I was reading some of my books on escapes and I was re-reading the methods used to get out of the jacket, I found them to be B.S.! The method that Hardeen explained that he and Harry used was funny. From what I read, it seems the author was trying to scare off anybody that was going to try to do the escape. Even John Novak, in his Escape books said he was glad the jacket he used did not have a crotch strap! I learned by doing it with out anybody's help(no body I knew was doing it) My first jacket was an old canvas & leather affair with three straps going down the legs, with straps at the knees and ankles. I got it from Jack Sutherland in Phoenix, Az. It had belonged to a magician whose name I cannot remember. I do know he died while training an assistant to do the bullet catch. I did my first upside down escape from that jacket in Chandler,Az. Using Horse hobbles on my ankles to hang off the rope. Did anybody here find the methods in the books to be misleading?

Lots of misleading information in Houdini's "Handcuff Secrets".
