Has anybody used Richard osterlind's imp pad? I'm wondering what are the approximate dimensions of this pad? In other words is it something clipboard size or is it a small pad that you can put in a pant pocket? The reason I ask these questions is because I have the first 3 volumes of his DVDs and these questions will be the deciding factor in whether to purchase volume 4. Thank you.

Just buy it. you bought the first 3. it will be well worth the money . why have an incomplete set. by the way the imp pad is a 3 x 5 inch pad. that's the best size. I have used it and it is a wonderful thing. BUY THE DVD.
THOUGHTfully,

Actually, you could make the IMPad up in almost any size you can find a pad of paper (you could even have a pad of a custom size made for you at Kinko's if you desired).
On the video the pad is a 3x5" as was mentioned and that seems to be a very convenient size as it fits in the pocket nicely. The pads are relatively easy to make up and are a nice innocent looking device. (BTW there are several different patterns of contact paper available to make your pad - you don't need to use the wood grain design shown on the video). Oh and, as was said, GET THE VIDEO! :>) Sandy |

I've made several variations of Osterlind's "Imp Pad's"... one is the standard 3"x5" but the other two are made from 5"x8" and 8.5"x11" ruled pads -- in the later versions I've created "double" imp pads with the ability to get the impression from 2 sides... I make the covers from chipboard covered with contact paper... heck, I even created a version that uses a spiral-bound notepad! (this one really kicks)... and I've created one that uses a marker and reuses the impression gathering gimmick...
I call the full sized ones "blimp" pads because of their size... as for information gathering, I have used the same impression side to get info from 3 separate participants by sectioning off different parts of each sheet of paper... top - middle - bottom... To get the optimal use of it (IMHO) and to match Richard's routine from MM, the size shouldn't be bigger than that it can get in your jacket inner pocket.
BTW, I have made the pads myself, and use them for the MM routine. However, I am not very good at constructing such things. I know that the pads were marketed some years back. Do anyone of you know if they still are? Sven

Salutations Magi,
I must say that I am Richard Osterlind fan! His modus operandi, IMHO, is without equal. That rare synthesis of simplicity of method with optimum effect. Having often seen the prices of Impression Devices, and might I say, being completely appalled at what, in some cases, is being charged, for comparatively little, it was with great delight that I constructed my first Imp Pad yesterday. My search for such a device is over, thanks to Richard, who has, yet again devised a prop that is completely effective yet comparatively easy to make. That for me is quite an admission, for I am by no means, a master craftsmen when it comes to making props. I tend more towards the "plucky" school of construction and design rather than the accomplished! I firmly believe in the dictum of Annemann when he said that it was more important to concentrate on the ultimate result of an effect rather than the means of achieving it. I am not a "finger flinger"! If anyone is in the process of looking around for an Impression Device that is, easy to construct, has a myriad of possible applications then look no further than the Imp Pad. Of course, it does have a further and highly pleasing consequence, namely, it will not leave one bankrupt! Full performance and construction details may be found on Mind Mysteries Vol.4, which not only contains this superb effect but many more also. Best magical wishes, Lester |

Some times I feel we get too fancy with impression this and impression that.. Just get some carbon paper or word in a million and use that ..
I've never been caught, and I feel it's all in the way you handle the spectator. |
