I have been on the Café many years. Over time, I have seen all types of questions. Sometimes they are posed in a thread and I will respond privately in a PM. But often I will get a PM asking me a question and I respond to those as well. Often the answers to the question take a considerable amount of time. I am shocked how many times I have gone out of my way to respond to someone's question in a PM and then receive no response----not even a simple thank you.

It gets to the point where I feel like I don't want to put myself in that position and simply won't help out. However, I don't want to be that person. So if you ask someone anything in a PM and they respond---give them the courtesy at a minimum of a thank you. Thanks Smile

Brehaut, It is a sense of entitlement that creates of this type of pattern. It is ubiquitous (but sad). I appreciate your comment.

It is sad, and makes you wonder if you helped at all. It is nice to get some feedback so you know you did not waste your time.

I agree with your thoughts. So many times posts or PMs take a great deal of time and effort, which you are offering for free, often to someone you don't even know, just in an effort to assist a fellow performer. Thanks is the least that should be returned.

As I and others here have stated before, respect among those helping and those that have come before yourself in this art and community is greatly diminishing. So glad you made the effort and took the time to bring it up. Thanks!

I think you are right. I often have wondered why someone would not simply reply "thanks" but if they feel entitled they do not even have to do that. I have even sent at my own cost effects to mentalists just in an act of kindness. I didn't expect anything in return---well...I guess I at least expected "thanks"

They had to return to read your reply. They could have said,

Thanks.

The same way in the for sale forum.
They say their interested and don't get back
with you for a long period or not at all.
Or say they will take it and don't pay till the next day.

I have obviously not been on the Café as long as many who answer regularly, but I have seen this behavior for years on all the forums I've been involved with.

The internet is wonderful for a lot of things - learning socials skills is not one of them.

As a side note, though - This is the very reason I often go out of my way to contact a creator when I purchase something, just to let them know I am getting their stuff and that I appreciate them releasing it.

On the private messages, once you reply it deletes the e-mail. Maybe they're just trying to keep the e-mail for reference ? Just a thought, not trying to excuse anyone.

It does not delete the message, it moves it to the sent folder when you reply.

It will eventually delete them regardless, I've found. There are several conversations I've had in the past that I cannot locate at all.
