I agree with Josh. I've never been busted either. I forget they are marked cards. you get busted by staring at the backs. Treat them like regular cards use the marks on the offbeat and you'll be fine. Great cards I have a brick in blue and red.

$5 a pack and now free shipping to the U.K.!!!!!
Can anybody advise whether these marks can be read from a “left handed spread”? Most marked decks I’ve tried require us lefties to read the marks upside down! |

Yes. Many directions including "left handed spread".

I bought one blue deck just to check them out and get the two videos with ideas for marked card effects. I do however think it is almost on the brink of "overkill" having so many marks on each card. In the same way I think my beloved Phoenix decks are also on the brink of overkill with 3 seperate "one-way" features. Not necessarily a "bad thing" but also not optimal. I do agree that the price per deck when buying a brick (12 decks for the new folks out there) is a fantastic price that makes it so you really should use them as "regular, every day carry cards" and see how it goes for you. I like this new deck enough that I would buy a brick (in the future). At $5 a deck (brick pricing) it is a no brainer.
The Mnemonica stack as NDO does absolutely nothing for me as I prefer Aronson, yet reordering the deck (or just leaving it as is to look shuffled) is not really a problem that I would even call a "Con". I wear bi-focals and can read these at a glance in any of the given positions. I really think these are here to stay so I also did not hesitate to grab a few regular "Maiden Decks" as I have another specialty gaff using the same back. I do agree they would easily fly by with a standard deck but for the price, who cares. I especially like the idea that there are several "Pro's" out there who use marked decks all the time. It reminds me of when I was learning Paul Green's Classic Force and used it all the time whether I needed to force a card or not. I have used many marked decks in the past including, DMC's, Phoenix (Poker and Parlor as well as the Daredevil deck), Ultimate Marked deck, Boris Wild marked deck, homemade marked decks (scratching and/or painting "flowers"), speedreaders, and even a deck that used 3D "magic eye" images on the backs. All have pros, all have cons, it is the nature of the beast. Now that I have seen and held the new $5 decks, I see this as a trend that hopefully those "magicians" from light hobbiests to master magicians will be able to keep secret. We get accused enough without using them. I won't be switching for now as (even though they cost quite a bit more) I still have several marked Phoenix decks that I can use since I normally use this brand anyway. Also, I was fortunate enough to grab up a brick of EPCC Superior Brand "Readers" on a recent sale at a magic shop besides Penguin for only $3.99 a deck (single or by the brick). I also grabbed 2 Superior ID's for $3.50 ea IIRC. I know this won't be a trend and I will eventually end up going with the Penguin Maiden Backs due to the price but I did gain some nice insight from the two downloads that come with a purchase of 1 or more Maiden Back Marked Cards. Both Rick Lax and Jon Armstrong give some great ideas where it comes to using marked decks as regular decks. Although they are inexpensive enough to tear, have signed, do a MCF or otherwise "destroy" the card. I would NOT be handing mine out for a "Souvenir" as the marks would surely be found out eventually. Just my two cents.

Just ordered a dozen Both in the videos and on penguinmagic.com they mention "Mnemonica". I am one of those guys with no clue as to what that is (except from it being cards in a specific order?). Should I spend time getting in to Mnemonica, and if yes; what is the best (and cheapest) source of this knowledge?

They should put a different video up for it, because Rick Lax keeps talking about how cheap they are and makes fun of other decks going for $15. And now this deck sells for... $15. Obviously, that's not a bad price for a marked stripper deck, but just amusing that the video suggests $15 is too much. 3. Also assuming this means there aren't any different videos included with the stripper version? Guessing most don't need it and know how to use a stripper deck, but might be nice to have some new ideas for how to use a marked stripper deck if that's what they're selling. |

I bought a brick of these and now I use marked decks exclusively. Lol. Most of the time I'm not even doing a trick that requires it but it's nice to have.
Time for a refill. |
