Excellent answers, Lobo. Thanks. I have a superficial understanding of each of your points. Now I'll take some time to dig a bit deeper to see what I can plant in my mind. I think the hardest idea for me was insisting on developing the B to b2. I wanted to capture with the b-pawn and develop along the c1-h6 diagonal. But I have to admit that I didn't have a good reason for that urge--something else to work through.

It's all part and parcel of an opening scheme that is very effective at speed chess, so there was never any question about the development of the dark-squared bishop. It mostly goes to b2 to create tactical threats involving the removal of the f6 knight (often with gain of tempo on the black queen) while a would-be mate threat exists on h7 (but for the knight on h7).
