I know that to be effective an analogy needs to be correct and needs to be relevant.

Yeah, I know it's naive but I'd rather it be out in the open, so it can be seen for what it is and, eventually dealt with. I'd rather have the crazy person next to me be babbling, or ranting, than silent. Besides I'm sure various agencies are already on it. Also, you'd have the issue of what constitutes radicalization. It could be argued that any type of indoctrination is radicalization. Then it comes down to who defines things, and since you're dealing with religious ideology that would get ugly fast.

The propagandist does not care what you believe – it is only action that really matters. It is may be a little hard to get your head around that idea but roughly this is how it works. Islamic fanaticism, just, for example, is not equal to be terrorism but the propagandist can take that Islamic fanaticism and stir up the Arabs to revolt etcetera. If you do not “act” then the propaganda has failed. It does not matter what you believe the propagandist can use it. Beliefs in themselves are not bad but all sorts of beliefs down through the ages have been used to get people to act in various ways by propagandist, agitators, etcetera. If people understood how it works then it would be difficult to trick them. I think schools best teach children how propaganda works. Once the kids get it, understand the techniques, it would make it more difficult for anybody to manipulate them.

Well, it's kind of quiet here, so I guess I'll stir the pot by mentioning what no one seems to have mentioned in this thread yet--it was a knife attack, not a machine gun spray.
