In the original thread in which I proposed the game, I wasn't kidding when I said that I was going to be outmatched by Lobo.
I haven't played chess regularly since high school. There, I played every day at lunch against the best player on the school team, and, eventually, we were about evenly matched. But I have no idea in the grand scheme of things how good he was. I've never really studied chess; I wouldn't know Ruy Lopez from a King's gambit (those terms being ones I remember hearing decades ago, with no idea what each actually is). Believing in full disclosure, I will say that I got some (unsolicited, but appreciated) pre-game advice via PM from one of the spectators here (who shall remain nameless). Too late I realized that my opening didn't really follow her (or his) advice, so now I'm trying to catch up on it. Oh, well. It'll be fun. |

Now things are getting interesting.
If I move P-Q3 (d3), then we can exchange pawns and exchange queens, but that will disqualify me from castling later. Another possibility is P-KB3 (f3); then if we exchange pawns I at least keep my queen. |

I sort of boxed myself in, so I think that it's time to mix things up with PxP (exd or e4xd5).
At least that may open things up for me. |

I'm looking to unleash my QN, with an eye toward forking Lobo's K and QR. Maybe I've lulled him into a false sense of my own ineptitude.
We'll see. To that end, let's get these pesky queens off the board. |

I pondered a number of possibilities, and finally settled on P-Q4 (d4).
Lobo can take the pawn with any of three pieces; what I do next will depend on which he chooses. None of the possibilities look particularly promising, however. C'est la guerre. |
