Hi..
I would really be interested to find any books or material that covers mentalism combined with hypnosis. What I would like to develop is a show which could be used intimately or in clubs etc but doesn't nessessarlity go into the full blown hypnosis shows? Ive been a stage hypnotist for many years and would like to find other ways of using hypnosis. For example the other night had a few friends over. We were playing around with the old hide something in your hand guess where it is. From there it was easy to induce arm catalepsy and have the hand tell me which hand it was in. I told it to move up an inch or magnitize towards my hand. From there it was natural step to stick it to a table. Then go into a full induction and elcit all the usual hypnotic phenomena....It was a really good blend of mentalism and hypnosis which I would like to explore more of. I have also used palm reading to induce hypnosis. Any thoughts or info n books videos would be appreciated. |

Ormond McGill's "The New Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnosis" is the one for you to read. It is considered to be the bible for this area. ISBN 1899836020 Crown House Publishing Available from Amazon at £39.50 Regards, Eric.

Derren Brown - who used to do a stage hypnosis show before he became a TV star - also combines mentalism with hypnotic effects (or at least hypno-tricks). See his two books "Pure Effect" and "Absolute Magic" and his two videos "The Derren Brown Lecture" and "The Devil's Picture-book" (this latter contains no hypnosis, but is an excellent collection of card effects and mentalism with cards, real or imaginary.)

Shrink,
Magus Magic in the UK may have the effects you are looking for. This is their website URL: - http://www.magus.worldaccess.co.uk/Home.htm I have no connection with them and I haven't yet bought any of their products but they look interesting. I found them by searching Google. They sell a stage hypnosis training manual and they also sell some Maurice Fogel & Al Koran routines too. Regards, Eric.

Hi Shrink,
I have found the shut eye books on hypnosis to be the best source of ideas for close up hypnotic routines. The magic books and all books on stage hypnosis fall way short of what you seem to be looking for. I use covert hypnosis in all my performances; actually my view is that hypnosis is all that I am doing in my performances, even when I do psychic readings. Thanks...
I have ordered the encyclopedia of stage hypnosis. I have known about it since it came out but resisted buying it because I thought Ormond may be a bit dated. I've had a couple of years break from performing and think mabey its time to get something back on the road. I used to have his "Art of Stage Hypnotism". I remember he had a real old book think it was called "Real Mental Magic", which seemingly had hypnosis among other things. Anyone have that could comment on the contents? Yeah I have seen most of the Derren Brown Stuff. He is good. He uses classic Richard Bandler inductions which look good. I was playing around the other night with something similar. I find when I try the hide in the hand routine described in psychological subtleties they catch on and hide their nonverbals which is why I came up with the idea of getting their "hand to tell me". Ive found its also a good way to covertly see if someone is a good hypnotic subject. The good thing is I only go for an induction if they are. |
