Amazing - but it seems to me it was not discussed in a magic Café. Excellent routine - excellent thinking!
I have a question - is this routine described in books? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVuIGOLRerM&t=14s I would like to trace its history. It seems to me that I read about this method - but I do not remember where. Any your thoughts? I think many will like this classic routine - with comedic beats.
I love the magic & history of magic! My favorites magicians - Dai Vernon, Max Malini, Fielding West, Michael Finney, Jeff Hobson, Bob Sheets, Nick Lewin, Harry Murphy, Dick Oslund- great showmen of magic!

Look up Canvas Covered Box. It's been discussed here. Great routine! I saw Denny and Lee do this many times.

Although used for a sub trunk routine in the clip it was originally used as an escape trunk and known as the Brooks Trunk. Details of it's construction and design can be found in 'The Great Illusions of Magic' by Byron G. Wels published by D.Robbins & Co.

Actually David_N it is not the Brooks Trunk as described in the Wels book. Although it may seem like it because of the canvas. The Canvas Covered Box is quite different in method and execution.

Thanks for that Scott. Sorry for any confusion folks, the physical similarity foxed me there.

I leaf through one of Paul Osborne's books.
I saw the secret and description of the Abbots' illusion, Canvas Covered Box. All exactly as I thought. But I congratulate Scott - very smooth work.
