Huw Collingbourne:
Salsa_dancer, ELima, and teejay all have good advice. I forgot about Kenton Knepper and Luke Jermay. Both of these mentalists use psychological methods. Luke Jermay's 7th Deception and Building Blocks are two great books to read about this method. Everything that Kenton Knepper has written uses psychological methods. But you MAY, however, have a problem with Kenton Knepper's works. They are controversial. Some people do not like Kenton because he uses NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) which is the implanting of thoughts or influencing the actions of others by using your words. His works are eccentric, original, and unusual therefore you will either love his methods and or hate them.

Buy Luke Jermay's Building Blocks. With the tips inside of it (plus some good effects) I managed to make my friend believe that I stopped my pulse and made him forget his card! I am only 14 and I agree that normally it is hard for a young person to carry of inlfuence based tricks, but with the tips and practical not to mention USEABLE tips anynone can now carry off astounding tricks. You can also take the information beyond what is written in the book and apply it to other tricks and make up your own. Make someone forget their name, where they live, how old they are, hwta day it is, convince someone you've stopped their pulse, your pulse, a stranger walking by's pulse ANYTHING. It is so versatile. Watching his Skullduggery DVD is a great help too.
Also to build up credential for your audience a realy great effect is Luke Jermay's Room 101. A great effect at a great price. Hope I helped Ali
