Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvBCkVOAF4I Perceived as a trick yes but used as a publicity stunt for his mentalism act.
How did that work? Not the bullet catch but the use of it for mentalism?
A wise man can learn more from a foolish question than a foolish man can learn from a wise answer.
Attributing negativity to a topic or post doesn't make the topic or post negative, it shines a light on the negativity of the person or persons, making the attributions. BEWARE these Debbie downers and anything they say. They simply lack the self esteem or good will, to be positive or productive. Your belief in self, is more important and is all that matters, for your success to be glorious. |

Just some ideas. Using precognition to know the trajectory of the bullet before it's fired. Or using psychokinesis to control the trajectory and decelerate the bullet. Or using thought control on the shooter to aim the bullet. Or using thought projection on the observers to form their perception of the shooting.

Yep. another example of how magic can be a mentalist best friend. Even if we hate to admit it I think we can learn quite a bit from demonstrations like these and understand that, what matters to the public is that you are capable of doing thing outside their realm of possibility. This is why Blaine, Angel, Domino and even Brown shine in the public eye. Or maybe it's just the advent of television and what it has become? Then again, there was little film back in Houdini's day, in terms of what we now consider modern and we still talk about him. Not sure what my point really is accept, to shine a light on publicity and what to do with it.

A bullet catch is a magic trick not mental-ism. Annemann was a magician. You don't have to take my word for it....just read the opening words (his words) from Volume One of the Jinx
"a single thought in mind, that of supplying magicians and mystery entertainers at large with practical effects and useful knowledge." There is a difference between mental magic, mystery entertainers and a mental-ist. If you want to find the difference start with Robert A Nelson and work backwards. |

I say that the bullet catch is more likened to a stunt than anything else. I've seen legitimate bullet catches, and I've seen them done as tricks. I agree that they are NOT mentalism, but neither is the buried alive stunt and more than a couple of mentalists have performed that or something similar as a publicity stunt. Same with the bullet catch. Blindfold drive, now THAT is a mentalist's stunt.

Not mentalism, but still, it can be perceived as a demonstration of mind over matter. On the other hand, one would have to be mental to try something like that for real.

Please reference. I don't think this has actually happened. Some tricks are more realistic, such as the metal cup in the mouth, etc, but I don't think anyone has genuinely caught a bullet in their mouth.

I'm talking about Carl Skenes, who actually catches the bullets in a cup fitted in his mouth. There's no trick to it, no gimmick. He's doing what he actually says he's doing. That, to me, makes it a stunt, not a trick. And it is actually caught in the mouth, which is why I said "legitimate". Call it a trick if you want, but catching a bullet in a metal cup that sits in your mouth, is still catching a BULLET in your mouth. Many others have a clandestine method or gimmick, this has none of that. So where's the trick? The guy is catching an actual bullet in his mouth.
