I ran across the term "neck tie the deck" in a card trick instruction. Seems like they are referring to how a deck is held, but I'm not familiar with it. Would someone care to enlighten me??
Thanks. |

The deck is held in dealing grip but more upward and close enough to the body so that the top card cannot be seen by the audience.
It's used mainly when the top card is either reversed or different in some other way from the rest of the cards of the deck.

Tilting the top of the deck in towards yourself. I tend to describe it as a "wrist kill" action. By turning your wrist inward you are killing the view of the top of the deck. Usually done as you lift off the top card to conceal the next card.
Some people rock the deck backwards this way when doing a second deal. Posted: Jul 10, 2002 2:39pm You were pretty quick on the mark there Geoff, lol. Paul. |

For an example of this watch the sting. When Scarne, errr, I mean Henry Gondolph does a second deal, he neckties the deck a little.
