So I'm re-acquiring trick decks that I remember from my teenage years as an amateur magician. They were all Fox Lake back then I believe. This time I would like them all to be Red Rider Backs for switching and finally returning to an examinable deck for sleight and self-working tricks. So I bought a Rider Back Svengali deck, its cut is terrible! Oh well. I expected (perhaps naively) more than that from the producer. So I'm looking for a better professional Svengali. Next I look for an invisible deck. I buy the magic makers "professional" ID. What the heck! Its a MIC deck with the back that screams "trick deck" (at least to my mind), and of course it doesn't match my other Rider Back decks and packets and normal cards. So much for switches. I wouldn't call that "professional" I goofed and assumed too much! I'm a retired guy and been around the block and usually do a sufficient amount of research before I buy. Not these times!
So the moral for both those returning and those new to magic. Write down your criteria for the items you want in your magic bag and inquire before buying ! Make no assumptions ! Especially if you are on a budget ! |
