Dear knowledge community. Im looking to control 4 cards such that 2 arrive at the top and two at the bottom in the most efficient way possible. A four card shift from 4 locations to the bottom I can do and shuffle 2 to the top I can do. But soemthing more effcient would be interesting.
Thanks M |

Cut top half deck into left hand - have all four cards replaced onto left half - place right half onto left half holding momentary break. Double cut to the break and do a couple or three overhand injog shuffles keeping the four on top. Then double cut two top cards to bottom - you're there.

The four cards are put back together in the centre of the deck, close the deck keeping a break so that 2 are above it and 2 below. Perform a pass.

About the same as my post - except a pass instead of a double cut. I know very few who can get away with a classic pass at that moment. Double cut followed by an overhand injog shuffle or three is much easier - for me, and much "surer" and effective - for me. And for the literally thousands of students of mine over the many decades.

Classic pass would be at the wrong moment indeed. But other passes could do the job. Cascade pass for example, in order to show the lost condition of the chosen cards.

The best answer would depend on a) the selection procedure, and b) the trick itself.
How are the cards picked and what is the effect? |

I want to routine a magician cuts four aces to a spectator cuts 4 aces...ideally the 4 aces found need to be apparently lost but actually in positon for the specator cuts. Sadly the pass is not my best - agree with harry Been trying to think of culls and bluff passes and cutting procedures.
Harry, thanks for the simple solution I over looked! |

Thanks, that helps a lot. If you weave these kinds of procedures into the context of the presentation itself, you can economize the process considerably, and accomplish your goals by more subtle means. Here's how I'd do it.
Control the aces to the top using a multiple shift (I would opt for a cull + Ben Earl's handling of Slipstream, but any appropriate MS would work). Say, "I want you to cut the deck four times. Not a normal cut like this..." Casually cut the top two cards to the bottom. Obscure the fact that it's only two cards, but don't go overboard. Just think of it like you're doing a bluff pass, but with a complete cut. "...But on the table, in piles. Like this." Table the deck and mime how you actually want them to cut. Now you're ready. (I lied. That's not exactly how I'd do it. Instead, I would palm out the aces and hand the deck out for shuffling. Replace them on top when the deck is returned, then go into the demonstration procedure to set the aces.) |
