I have over the years, gathered a nice little collection of Magic Books, some rarer and more valuable than others.
I have them in a cupboard but was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to store them? I do take them out from time to time and read them but I really don't want to affect the condition of them. I was thinking of a nice custom made book shelf, however, I'm worried about dust, and as my collection expands I would soon run out of space (as I have in my cupboard). any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks, Luke Jonas |

I would get the book The Conservation of Magic - by Leo Behnke from Neilsen Magic. It is a very good reference to store magic books and other magic items. Leo was the former curator of the Copperfield museum.

I found over the years that the worse enemy to my magic books is sunlight (even indirect) as this will cause the spines to fade. Many years ago my wife redid our walk-in closet to our bedroom and that gave me the idea of shelves to store not only my magic books but also my magic collection that was quickly accumulating.
Since it is dark in there most of the time, all my magic continues to looks pristine, despite the years = no fading (paint, wood exteriors, book spines always look "new"). plus I get to see all my collection every day as I access my clothes, etc |

Brodart.com is a supplier of plastic book covers (non-acid). They supply many antique book dealers and libraries. Get the rolls to cover your books - I have over 600 in my collection: they are very dear to my heart and can't believe how many more I do NOT have! Don't tell my wife that I'm ready to buy more. LOL!

Yes, Bodart is the way to go to preserve books! Ironically, it's the condition of the dust jacket that usually determines the value of used collectable books. The only way to really keep them in pristine condition is with clear dust jacket covers, and they are very inexpensive compared to the cost of books!
