Technology moves pretty fast, and magicians are usually on the cutting edge. As Arthur C. Clarke said, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." So, magicians have led in presenting new technology as "magic" until the rest of the world catches up. Such was the technology a few years back when we first had "caller ID". People were amazed that Banachek knew "who was calling" before the caller stated their name. As a result, he booked more shows. Well, I am off on a tangent.
But this week on The Magic Word Podcast, Jim Sisti and I talk about the evolution of magic on the internet over the past 25 years or so. The changes have been fast and we quickly embraced the new technology. We found it to be helpful not only to communicate with one another across vast distances but also as a way to share and learn new ideas from many whom we would not have ever known, met or otherwise talked to in our lives. We talk about Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) and the early stages of communicating by "dial-up" (remember that, kids?) then lead up to where we are today with YouTube, online forums, podcasts, blogs and more. We also give our predictions of where technology might be taking us in the next few years. We spend part of the last of our chat talking about Richard Robinson's incredible work over the years in cataloging magic and posting instructional videos, monographs, marketing materials, and more. He put this all into an incredible 4GB flash drive called "Robinson Wizard's Magic Encyclopedia" which allows the user unlimited searching on hundreds of topics and access to royalty-free music, downloadable PDF's to construct tricks, marketing materials, plus video instructions, and much, much more. You can watch a trailer of the Magic Encyclopedia, enter the contest for a chance to win a flash drive, read the blog, see some photos, listen online to the podcast and download the MP3 file t: https://www.themagicwordpodcast.com/scot......im-sisti Be sure to visit the website to enter the contest. One lucky winner will receive a flash drive worth %90.00! This contest won't last long, so enter today. Next week I will be attending the annual Magi-Fest in Columbus, Ohio and posting daily updates from the convention. It will be the next best thing to being there!
