Would someone that owns the book Device and Illusion by Jim Steinmeyer mind telling me which illusions are described in the book? If you don't mind, list the illusion and tell what it does (ex. appearance of assisstant).
Also, if anyone owns Andrew Mayne's book Illusion F/X, would you mind listing the illusions covered in that book? Thanks. |

Here they are:
Houdini's Rope-Magician's body passes through a rope held taught by to volunteers, and threaded through a wooden stand. Neon-An assistant's body passes through a series of neon tubes in a stock on the table. Perforation-a "new" sword box Artist's Daydream-Smaller, more compact version of "The Artist's Dream" using just a relatively small easel on short legs. India Rubber-A woman's arm is stretched many many feet further than it should. But this isn't in a box...it is done using just a cloth in front of her body held up by two other assistants. It has a long slit along it for her hand to travel. She can even do the most stereotypical thing, wave a silk hankercheif. Through a One-inch hole- An assistant has a rope tied around her, that goes through a one inch hole in a packing crate, out the bottom and to the magician's hand. Audience members raise a curtain while the magians pull. When the curtain is lowered it is revealed that the assistant has gotten into the box, she cuts the rope and comes out for her applause. Small Packages- A girl is produces form a set of seamingly empty boxes on a trolley. Hot Air-A suspension that looms truly amazing. Maybe someone else could elaborate. The Lady in the Puzzle-A woman is put in a box, solid blocks (part of the puzzle) are put into the box ontop of her. when the front panel is let down it appears she has merged with the boxes/been crushed. The magician rearranges the pieces and the assistant can come out once all of the pieces are removed with a possible costume change. Six Routines (could someone else take these)-six smaller tricks If I have made any mistakes, please correct me. I hope this helps. Nick Fox |

Thanks. Does anyone know of the last 6 routines or the effects listed in Andrew Mayne's Illusion F/X

Here, I'll just tell you what the other six routines are (they are not illusions):
Two-sided Triangle-Two spectators, each one thinks of one of twelve playing cards. The Thought-of cards disappear from a small packet while it is held in their hands, and the cards appear in an empty sealed envelope. The envelope has been hanging on a ribbon between the spectators thoughout the trick. Knot Unexpected-a cut and restored rope/sliding knot trick. Black Confetti-Two crystal classes are shown. Into one is sprinkled black confetti. This is covered with a black silk. The second glass is filled with white confetti. The black covered glass is set far to one side of the stage. The white glass is held between the hands on the other side of the stage. As the glass is tipped over, the contents visibly change to black. The other glass is uncovered revealing white. Needles-more of an idea than a trick that goes along with the "East Indian Needle Trick" (swallow needles, swallow thread, regurgitate threaded needles). San Fernando Monte-The jumbo cards in this version of "three Card Monte" can be clearly seen by most audiences, and the progressive routine has a nice pace. The goal, throughout, was to give an authentic feeling to the game with several surprising changes at the finish. Smoke and Fire-The signed borrowed bill ends up amidst the tobacco in the center of a cigar which has been smoked throughout the routine. There you have it, where I could I quoted the book directly. I hope this helps you. Nick Fox |

Its a wonderful book....
as well as his Jerrett book.
What you have seen this evening was real, though it may have nothing to do with reality.
