According to Stephen Hawking the belief in God was based on the human desire for the good guys to win.
Hawking admitted he never discovered the reason the universe existed. Most likely this was due to change and instability which seems to remain constant. Hawking's conclusion that only imaginary time existed before the creation of the universe is yet to be proven. Still, it is interesting. So long Mr. Hawking. You will be missed. I hope your thoughts and the warnings of Bill Gates on the danger of artificial super intelligence are wrong. Can you say SKY NET? |

Will Artificial Super Intelligence be trained to be rational? And who will be their teachers?

Among other qualities, he was considered a very rigorous scientist. I recently heard a radio lecture he gave concerning his views on black holes. He was proved wrong about his early thoughts that nothing could 'escape' a black hole, and very humbly admitted his mistake when evidence showed temperature existing in a black hole. We may never know WHY there is something instead of nothing. However, we do know much more about the universe because of Mr. Hawking; and he will be missed (including his sense of humor). Lynn

Introducing: Stephen Hawking's Final Paper
Stephen Hawking submitted a final paper in the days before his death that could potentially one day lead to a major breakthrough. The paper, titled "A Smooth Exit from Eternal Inflation," was submitted about 10 days before the death of the world famous physicist, who is listed among its co-authors. The paper lays the groundwork for how a future space probe could be used to test the existence of the so-called "multiverse," or the notion that the universe we know is only one of many. It wasn't that long ago that the milky way was the only galaxy and our solar system was of course in the center. |
