I've referred to repeat performances on the Makem and Clancy thread and in regard to Elvis, previously.
I enjoy viewing them because that's a way to really see "the wheels turning", because a performer who is present, is present differently each time. I think a lot of disrespect for acting comes from the misconception that actors just go through the motions the same way to cookie cut each performance. Many performers might start that way and fall into trying to repeat, as Al discusses, but those who understand presence realize that setting out live on a course, will bring a new walk each time. There's a distinct difference between trying to walk and walking. Very much common sense but ego tripping hangs humans up on occasion. Instinctual vs "rational". |
