I was able to snag a new copy of the complete invocation volumes one and two for $75. Is that the entire collection or is there more to it?

There are two versions of the Compleat Invocation. One version is just Volumes I & II, and it can usually be found for around $75. The other version contains all 3 Volumes and usually sells for around $300-400 - IF you can find it. (And for a time you could buy Volume 3 separately. Can't remember the price though.) I guess the "better bits" are in Volume III? However, I've got the all-inclusive volume and, while Tony was wildly creative and a revolutionary magician in many ways - and Invocation was indeed a ground-breaking publication for bizarrists everywhere - I was never that impressed with the "performability" of many the routines discussed. I think I even read an interview with Tony later where he admitted that much of the material published in Invocation wasn't really performable as written. But, I think it's an interesting read, and as a bizarre idea-generator, I think the Compleat Invocation can be a helpful tool. It's also a wonderful piece of magic history and it offers fascinating insight into the early days of bizarrist thinking. Just don't expect to use the routines "right off the shelf." But then again, what bizarrist would do that anyway, right?
If you want to take a look at it sometime, let me know. I'm local. |

Compleat Invocation 1 & 2 is on sale at Hocus Pocus Magic right now for $45 for members. Not sure why so low, but it's the one-volume, 900 page doorstop. Got mine in the mail today; it's shrink wrapped. Illustrations are NSFW but very evocative of the 70s.

Nice. That's a good deal. I still wonder why they don't include the 3rd volume. It's really not any different and the effects are about the same. Maybe copyright issues? And, yes, the pics are interesting and very 70s.

I ordered mine today also--for only $45, it's kind of a no-brainer...
Looking forward to taking a trip back to the 70's! |
