I'm in the process of rewriting patter for some of my more common tricks. Such as "disappearing silk in hand", PB&J, etc.
This is my take on Hopping Halves called "Romeo & Juliet". I originally wrote this as a Ukrainian ethnic story (because I'm Ukrainian) . I modified the Ukrainian theme for my non Ukrainian friends. I used the poor/rich theme. I'm not completely satisfied with that theme and I am open to suggestions. Here it is. ________________________________________________________ Are you familiar with Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”? It’s about a boy and a girl that are very much in love but their families didn’t approve of them seeing each other. Well this is a modern day version of “Romeo and Juliet”? It’s called “Natalie & Nicholas” Natalie & Nicholas both went to school together in New Jersey at Princeton University. Natalie majored in nursing Natalie will be represented by this US half dollar Show Kennedy half dollar and Nicholas majored in Computer Science. Nicholas will be represented by this English penny. Show English penny After a few dates they were madly in love. Close fist tightly and say firmly, They were tight. Eventually Natalie’s parents found out about the relationship and found out that Nicholas was poor. They called Natalie and told her that she was never allowed to see Nicholas again. Remove Kennedy s**** from hand, show all, and put in right pants pocket. Back at Princeton University, Nicholas was sad but just like “Romeo and Juliet”, they could not be kept apart. Show left hand with both coins Nicholas & Natalie were again very happy. Then Nicholas’s parents called Nicholas from Phoenix, Arizona. They said, ”Why are you going out with an elitist rich girl? You have to leave her immediately” Remove English penny s**** from hand, show all, and put in right pants pocket. Nicholas went back to school and as before Nicholas & Natalie were back together again. Show left hand with both coins. When Natalie’s parents found out that she disobeyed them, they pulled Natalie from Princeton University and enrolled her at the University of Hawaii. Remove Kennedy half from hand, show both sides, and put in right pants pocket. But before Natalie went away to Hawaii, Natalie went to see Nicholas to tell him she’s going away. They kissed and made plans to be together again. Show left hand with both coins. Nicholas then said, “I’ll be right back” and he mysteriously left for an hour. Remove English penny s***/half from hand, show all, and put in right pants pocket. And then came back. You see, Nicholas went to get a marriage license. They eloped and went on their honeymoon. Show empty left hand. And they lived happily ever after. ___________________________________

Why is Natalie the coin with the man's head on it and Nicholas the one with the woman's?
Also, it's Queen Elizabeth on an English Penny (well the more recent ones) so her being the rich girl makes more sense to me. The guy can be a bootlegger's son. (JFK was). |

I guess that’s why I did it that way. I’ll work on changing it. Thanks. I had a lot of ideas on different themes but in this climate of political correctness, I have to be careful.

It's good. I worked on a similar idea a few years ago, but I didn't use proper names. You might want to work on paring the verbiage down, just a bit. Good job.

I like it!
Agree to "Omit needless words." (Rule 17, Strunk & White). For example, instead of, "the half dollars represents Natalie", Just display the half dollar as you introduce the coins, "Natalie came from a wealthy family and was attending ..." While displaying the coin. They will get the point that one coin represents the girl and the other represents the boy. Love the creativity! Hudson |

Ihop,
Nice job. Im a big fan of having an effect compliment a story over "expository" patter. I think the refinements mentioned will help, but the basic plot of inseparable lovers is (in my opinion) brilliant. |

If I use romeo and juliet in a story I always point out that everyone thinks of it as a great love story but in the end it is about a 17 year old falling for a 13 year, lasted for three days and ended up with six people dead.

So you're saying it's basically a comedy...?

Once upon a time I tinkered with the idea of secret meetings between President Kennedy and Queen Elizabeth
(hey! It seemed like an obvious plot) but I never came up with something I liked. |

I like it a lot. I really enjoy magic with good storytelling. Very cool!
