On page 13 of Pastor Greg Laurie's excellent 2018 book "Every Day With Jesus" (Forty Years of Favorite Devotions) the storyline is "From His Perspective". Laurie tells the story of an elderly minister when visiting the hospital showed patients first the back of a embroidered book mark which was illegible. He would ask if the patient could read it. Of course they could not. Then he'd turn the bookmark over and it read "God Is Love".
The pastor would then explain although we may not originally see what He is doing, He knows exactly what He is doing all along. See the stories of Joseph, Daniel, Moses and many more as mentioned by Greg Laurie. I wanted to illustrate this devotional with the kids. First I purchased online a "hand stitched and lined completed cross stitch bookmark "God is Love" 2.5 inches x 9.25 inches". Second, I did a Google search on "Jesus Illusion", and found out you can print this optical eye trick out and enlarge it (or copy it) for the kids/your audience to see. I wanted the "Jesus Illusion" in a "packs small plays big version", so I obtained from the Society6 web site "Optical Illusion - After Image - Jesus Christ by Ouijawedge $44.99 Throw Pillow Indoor/Cover 24x24 inches." This effect also can highlight not seeing something originally and then seeing Christ in it later. I simply hold up the cover at chest level- and I put my "Cross Sticks" in the pillow case as a weight so it hangs flat. Things can look confused and mixed up at the beginning, but then God "will step in and turn events around" for His glory. |

Google "Jesus Mind Illusion" and the "optical" illusion comes up including on www.youtube.com For me, the image of Jesus comes up best after blinking. This will not work with all kids who may have not enough concentration to stare at the four dots for 30+ seconds- or you may have to attempt this a second or third time while talking about this very familiar Bible verse and what it means... Matthew 19:26. Kids need to learn God is not a genii in a bottle but also uses our circumstances far beyond what we ourselves can often originally see or even imagine. You may have your own example to share of a "God thing" that happened in your own life while the kids stare at the four dots in the middle of the confusing black and white design. Check it out yourself first in the room you are performing in to see where to look and blink so that the "Jesus image" shows up best.

I think this is a better approach to discussing this verse than doing a magic trick and then concluding that man can only do the possible but with God (which vaguely means the magician is a very weak representation) "all things are possible."

The image itself can be made stage size by enlarging it and placing it on poster board or using black fabric ink and putting it on a large white cloth (if you do not want to buy the design already enlarged like I did: see first post above). Reminds me somewhat of the popular expanding and shrinking head illusion made popular by magician Bruce Kalver - first saw him to this to a reactive audience at Abbott's Get Together years ago... PJ Weber performed the expanding head optical illusion to good response on the Sunday night program of this year's FCM convention in Indy. ☺️

Thanks for sharing MagicBus, while I have seen images like this online in the past I never thought about an application like this. For those that may be looking for cost effective ways of reproducing the image if you have access to a projector you can project the image onto large posterboard or perhaps better yet a large cloth that could be hung up and just trace the outlines and colour with sharpie or fabric paint as suggested to get the closest reproduction to the original rather than simply looking and trying to replicate. Always appreciate your insight Magic!

I've drawn items from 6" sq to 32+" sq(?) by lightly drawing a quad.(small squres) over the small picture - then draw equal #s large squares over the blank posterboard(?)Picture/BlankBoard, each HAVING THE SAME #s OF SQ. Draw in each blank sq. what is in the corresponding blank(posterboard?) square. Clear??.
