Sorry to butt in here, Owen; but if you really want to learn the ROPS move properly, you need to purchase Michael's Knockout Coin Magic, Volume One. Accept no substitutes!

Rob,
I thought that this might be the case, and I am sure that I will get these videos shortly...Is the move taught on the new Chris Korn DVDs? owen |

I'll totally agree with Rob on that point. Knockout Coin Magic is a superlative tool for that move, as well as some other sleeper stuff that seemed to have gone mostly unnoticed for some reason (?)
Best, Mike |

Sorry, Owen, but I don't have the Chris Korn DVDs, so I can't say what's on there.
I couldn't agree more, Mike. There's some great stuff on there. The Heckler and Silver Lint II immediately spring to mind. |

I wonder if Kainoa is getting some income from all the soft coins folks are buying to do his material?

Ill working on the Pendulum Coins 2, but I was just having a look at tthe coins across routine"Punctuated Equilibrium Coins Across", and this is probably the best reason for the coins across routine I have seen to date although some may say that in this version there is no reason for the coins flying, as the routine never starts (you will probably undersand this if you know the routine)!

For those of you who didn't read the Seminar thread, just wanted to let you know that Kainoa will be our Special Guest at the New York Coin Seminar, to be held in Philadelphia on July 16. Check out that thread for more details, and how you can learn the book material and more from Kainoa himself ( along with Roth, Rubinstein, Latta, and Gallo).
S.E.M. (The Sun, the Moon, and the Earth) is a sun and moon routine unlike any other. Limited to 100 sets, here is the promo:

To get back to COE and Cointopia, do not overlook the Flying Wombat. That outlandishly sounding and looking move is a fooler and much easier to do than it reads.
And there are obvious applications for sleeving with the Fingertip Muscle pass. I agree with all. COE and Cointopia will become standard references. And it was nice to see Jonathan Townsend represented in it. This kind of edge work isn't that new but is now becoming appreciated D |

Puzzled here. Dan. When I did my work in EG, and sent out a manuscript in 82, it was NEW. The EG2EG in Kainoa's book is new to all but about five people who got the item back in 82. All the rest of Kainao's work making the Downs/Shaw/Buckley stuff into EG moves and his own stuff is new, as in the last few years. And there is still more EG stuff out there if you go looking. I was told my "instant wildcoin" hit print somewhere.

Jon,
I think it may be a matter of definition. If you mean, for example, the approach typified by your and Harbottle's edge palm techniques, where he is careful to distinguish it from Roth's then, of course, all of this is new. At least it is to me. However I personally became aware of this kind of approach to coin magic with Gary Kurtz when he lectured in San Diego in the late 1980s. What struck me about his routines like Trio was their dependence on edge work. Until then I hadn't seen it used very much unless the hand was also holding a coin purse or frame. The Nowhere Palm, which if I remember correctly Kurtz credited to Geoff Latta, in particular struck me. It was the first time I had seen a coin go into an edge grip, (OK curl palm), as a one-handed vanish. Until then I saw palms used only as concealments and not as displays and vanishes. Again his technique seems more aligned with Roth's, particularly if you look at his illustrations in Unexplainable Acts, but its potential was being explored and more to the point, being shown to the average magicians. I think that's why COE and Cointopia had such an impact on me. I was fully aware of edge work. I was not at all prepared for was the sophistication and depth that this approach had reached nor how far it had distanced itself from Roth's work. Working through the routines in those manuscripts made me feel like a beginner again. Hours of frustration punctuated by a few seconds of triumph. I am surprised that to read that your instant wild coin effect is in print somewhere. Have to assume it's some private publication. D |

I wrote a mini review on it here: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......10&2 All the routines are well thought of but these are only a fraction of what the books offer you. Edge Grip is awesome as well as mutobe palm. Beijing Trio from the books is another monster addition to Curtis Kam's Beijing Coins Across. Do some Edge Grip stuff with coins and you could establish yourself as a reputable magician.
