The third volume of Ryan Schlutz’s “False Anchors” series is now on presale! It’s available here:
https://falseanchors.com/products/false-anchors-volume-3 You can read a description of the tricks in the book on that link, but I will tell you, I’ve been lucky enough to witness all of these and have been privileged to watch them evolve. Each routine is FOOLING. Boxy Waltz is one of the most practical Aniversary Waltz routines I’ve ever come across. The construction is genius and allows you to go into the routine at the drop of a hat. Before the Thought is a thing of beauty and I GUARANTEE if Ryan would have performed this on you, you would have been fooled BIG TIME. Ryan has combined some old ideas with some new ideas and taken them to new heights. What you achieve with this is a near perfect effect. It’s about the cleanest prediction trick you could do with a deck of cards. Crazy good. The One with the High Five is entertainment at its finest. More suited for a bigger crowd, it is a stunning effect. It’s as clean as it gets and takes some of Ryan’s classic thinking and hands off approach and adds a wonderful touch to make it seem truly impossible. This is the type of routine that would KILL at the magic castle. If you get to perform in any kind of intimate parlor setting or house party, this one is going to be the trick everyone will remember and talk about after the fact. You guys don’t want to miss this. Really. It’s too good. Madison |

Just got my book in. Boy oh boy it's a beauty as always!
I stand by my thoughts above; this is printed with the best quality and the material within is of top quality as well. The gimmick included works WONDERFULLY and will have many uses beyond the routine supplied in the book. You will love these routines, and, if you're smart, you'll use them. Your audiences will thank you. Madison |

Another top notch release in this series. More arts and crafts than in the prior releases but nothing hard. My favorite is by far High Five. Ryan closes his parlor act with it and I can see why. Somewhat similar to the trick Blaine closes his touring show with. Including the needed gimmick was a touch of class by Ryan and it will save you a ton of time and effort. Boxy Waltz is also great. More work than the standard version but you get three effects in one, including a killer two card transpo that is a super clean lead in to the waltz effect. Before the Thought is very clever but probably too involved for most people but would certainly fool people. Instructions for this one are a bit confusing but you will eventually catch on. My only wish is that the books would include private video links so you could see Ryan performing each of the routines. That would be a killer addition that I think would be very helpful. All in all, another fantastic release.

Hi guys,
I have 1 and 2 who are really good and will get 3 too. I also second the wish for some video material. Just makes things so much easier. Cheers |

Thank you everyone for the feedback!
I definitely understand the desire for the video companion, it was something I debated. I ultimately decided to go back to the roots of magic where magic was only shared via notes and direct from the source. That is why I don’t have my books in electronic form and are only available from me. Also I truly believe books help creativity with effects. So many of my creations have been from reading other people’s work not watching it so I wanted to bring that experience back with this series. I have still been considering videos despite my reason above so we will see. Ryan |

Ordered, definitely looking forward to this.
I'm definitely a fan after seeing Ryan's At The Table lecture.

I totally get not wanting to do videos. I agree that books generate more creativity. So if there are no vids, this is still a great project. Sometimes I just wish I could see something in action to see how it flows, even if vid is silent or just done to music.

Yeah, there are definitely some things that can be demonstrated in a few seconds on video that take pages to describe and even then could be misinterpreted. And there are some people that have learning differences and pick stuff up much easier visually.
But then the old 'best place to hide something is in print' sounds like what Ryan is going for and I totally understand that too.

So I've had a chance to read and digest this book.
Very nice thinking. Ryan is fast becoming one of my favorite creators for playing card effects. The book is very nicely designed, has plenty of full color pictures, and is written in a clear an easy to understand manner. It also comes with a specialized gimmick that is necessary to do one of the effects, which was very nice. It's useful for other similar effects too. This gimmick will last you for ever as long as you don't lose it. As for the contents, there are 3 effects and a utility item. As a mentalist, I won't be performing the Anniversary Waltz effect, though it reads well. 'Before the Thought' is great. The clever combination of 2 lesser utilized principles that come together to create an incredibly strong effect. I wish I had seen this performed first so I could stew in the depth of being fooled. Nonetheless - it's great. The one minor drawback is that it requires a small modification to the deck. But you have to makes some sacrifices to create miracles. 'The Box Switch' I had already seen as he shared it on his At The Table Lecture, and it's a great utility item. 'The One with the High Five' is another straight miracle. What an amazing piece, this is really a knockout (hey - I box too! actually, kickbox). Again, I would have been totally fooled had I seen this performed. It's also a bit of a setup, but again - you have to make sacrifices to create miracles. All in all great thinking.

Thanks Last Laugh. Appreciate you taking the time to review and happy you have been enjoying my material. I too wish I could of showed you both effects before reading it. Always fun to get fooled.

Just placed my order! Thanks for letting us know, Madison! I'm also mainly into mentalism/bizarre, and not really a "card guy" but... Ryan Schlutz stuff is an exception. I will always buy his False Anchor series, and plenty of his other stuff also. Guy's a frackin' genius!!

Attended a club meeting last night and I performed “Before the Thought” 5 times in a row and fooled the group every single time. I don’t perform effects twice for the same audience often but sometimes in Strolling situations you do and nice to know this effect can withstand repeat performances. And they were all very smart magicians so laymen do not stand a chance.

I am going to swim against the tide a bit on this one. While I do not have volume 3 so I cannot comment on this specific material, my feeling is that this series offers questionable value for the money. Volumes 1 and 2 cost $70 and contained seven effects (with a few variations), a couple of shuffle controls, and a few utilities. Several of the ideas are good, occasionally great, but compare that to several high profile releases over the same period (e.g. Card Devilry, Handcrafted Miraclss 3, Less is More, Temporarily Out of Order) all of which feature significantly more high-quality effects at much cheaper prices. Yes, I know that to each their own; value is subjective; and I can already anticipate those of you who will save it if I take it least one idea out of these manuscripts then I have gotten good value. But I would think more of this material and its reator of it were priced competitively to the works of other contemporary card masters.
