I was wondering if I am the only person with this problem: I have been wanting to do the Greg Wilson Routine where the quarter ends up in your eye socket like a monocle, BUT (I believe due to the difference in human eye sockets) no matter how hard I try, I can not hold a quarter in my eye socket without it falling out. I know it sounds weird, but my eye socket refuses to "grab" the coin. It just "plop" falls to the floor. D'oh!!
Anybody else have this problem, and have you figured out another place where the coin can appear instead of the eye socket? I hope this doesn't sound like the dumbest topic anyone has ever posted, but I just HAD to ask!

You are a brave man to pop things into your eye socket like that. Have you tried other kinds of coin for size? This may work like a classic palm fit thing...
...to all the coins I've dropped here

Try a larger coin like a half. However don't be surprised if you start speaking like Colonel Klink. I don't recommend the hooked coin unless you're a masochist. If you're a woman, you could hide some blue tac over your eyelid blending it in with eye shadow. Then there's the magnet under the eyelid and a shim coin.

Tommy Wonder uses a dollar-sized coin. I'd try that or a half. A quarter is just too small.

I wear glasses and have found that to be a little bit of a hindrance, because I have to go around them to get the coin to my eye.
For me it works a lot better with the Susan B. Anthony dollar instead of a quarter. |

Well the problem here is that Greg's premise is that you perform all these effects with borrowed objects from a spectator. I have thought about the half dollar idea, but the chance of borrowing these from a spectator is almost nil. People have quarters in their pockets, but few people have Kennedy halves. I don't really want to take the routine out of the impromptu, borrowed items framework that Greg has specified.
I guess that means, that I never will have this effect as my own, because I am "eye socketly disadvantaged." (Sigh)

If you really want to perform this then USE your own half dollar. It is OK for you to change up tricks. If you are so bent on borrowing the quarter do a spellbound routine first, changing the quarter into a half dollar, then proceed from there.

Doug. I don't know the effect being discussed but would having the coin stuck to the forehead work just as well as having it over the eye?

Possibly! How do you make it stick?

Yes -- that might be just as clever as the eye thing!

I guess I'm lucky, up here we have one dollar coins and two dollar coins.
I find twoonies (two dollar coins) fit in my eye better than quarters, but I think the coin on the forehead would work just as well. |
