I've seen the occasional post that mentions the Balloon Sword Box, an effect where swords are substituted for balloon swords. I know Fairchild Magic/Entertainment used to manufacture one, but it appears they no longer do so. Does anyone know a current source/manufacturer for one? All help appreciated!

There's a good reason for the scarcity of the trick- it is not very believable, any more than the sword head box is believable. Use the principle shown here, and perhaps I could believe it if the box stabbed with balloons could be lifted away and still show the victim headless.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsDbUab1j-Y As it is, the floating head in the above video is the part that's not believable, so combining the balloon head (or sword or arrow) box with the vanishing head table might be a good solution for both problems. Just my opinion.

I purchased a "Spiked" illusion recently (Rich Hill) and while I told myself it would be a nice small illusion, I don't think anyone's fooled here. If I could incorporate the table from this video I would be much more confident in the prop. As it is, the key to using this kind of thing is more concentration on a strong presentation and can't be regarded as anything more than entertainment... to me none of the variations around are very "magicial." |

In the book ILLUSION F/X from Andrew Mayne are six pages about the trick "Balloon Box". A child of the audience goes into a cabinet. The magician sticks about ten balloons into the cabinat, after that the childs torso is gone. Don't know how good this illusion and the description is.

Jim and Steve, I appreciate your perspectives. It's certainly not the best "fooler" trick. With Arrowhead and a dagger head chest gathering dust on my shelf, I certainly don't need another head box trick. Daniel, thanks for reminding me of the version in Andrew Mayne's Illusion FX. I think I can work with the design and make it a little more magical than the Fairchild version.

I think the table can be made inexpensively from PVC pipe. Now the problem is that that method only works with a trained assistant, not someone from the audience. But the table has so many uses for head-free effects, including a twister illusion, it might be worth an e-Book on how to make one.

I have made a couple of balloon head boxes over the years but have always worried about the effect on the child if a balloon bursts while their head is enclosed in the dark. For that reason I designed this cabinet which is far less frightening for the child. Whilst I do not think it is particularly convincing I have reports of good reactions from those that are using it. http://www.madetomeasuremagic.co.uk/Chil......inet.htm

Hey Made to Measure Magic, I like the look of your balloon cabinet. Do you ship to the USA?
