What's up guys
Well I'm what you'd call a "professional hobbyst" in magic, I study and practice sleight of hand as if I was a working pro, but I make my living doing other things, haven't made money from performing magic for about 4 years now and I doubt I will in the near or far future. Well anyway, I run a Café for a living, I used to work at a Café in the city while I was in the university, and after graduation I went on to open my own place. I am still in close relation with my old employer, and some time ago we spoke and he told me he suspects one of his employees is stealing money from the cash register, but he doesn't have a real proof. One day he calls me up and tells me I gotta see something he caught on camera. I met up with him and he showed me a video segment of said employee doing a suspicious "move" with a banknote, a move he believed was video-proof of her "sleeving" money from the cash register in bright day light! I looked at the video and, as the sleight of hand self-proclaimed-expert that I am, I told him that this is not what sleeving actually looks like, and for that woman to be able to sleeve something so naturally in front of everybody and with such confidence, well, she could be making a lot more money doing magic shows with those (imagined) skills, alright? Eventually he understood that it was his wild imagination, and that this isn't holywood and most people aren't expert sleight of hand artists. I guess that's one way magic has helped me in a non-magic-related real life situation. Just wanted to share! |
