Hi guys,
So I have a bunch of questions and thoughts about old decks, please chime in on any: 1. In the 90's when I was first getting serious into magic, I noticed a run of Bicycle 808 Rider Backs that had a flaw in the air cushion finish - one side had the standard square pattern, but the other side only had vertical lines, like the imprint of the horizontal lines didn't go deep enough. The entire deck felt thinner and of lower quality. Almost all 808's I got during this period were like this, lower quality. This was still Ohio made. The older 808's I had were clearly better cut, thicker, and snappier. Anyone else noticed this? 2. After a while, 808's seemed to get better in quality, though the CostCo mega packs seemed to be of lesser quality. But then when they moved production to Erlanger, KY, quality seemed to go down again. Anyone else notice this? 3. The font, print quality, placement of 808 versus the barcode on the bottom, etc., seem to have changed a lot over the years. I have vintage 808 decks, sealed, running from 100 years ago through today. Anyone happen to know of a resource that catalogs all the different changes to the Bikes over the years? Or am I the only weirdo who is interested in things like this =) 4. I have a bunch of early Black Tiger decks - these also have some variation in the packaging. I am guessing that the decks not marked "Performance Finish" are the UV500's? And, on the top of the case, what about the ones that have the QH reveal versus not? 5. Same question as 4 for my Ghost decks - some are actually marked UV500 so those must be the UV500. But even of the UV500's, I have two kinds - one with the card reveal on the top, and one without. Anyone know which came first? Thanks y'all! |
