I build and modify illusions. Sometimes I make them a little better, but what about originality? Masked magicians say that we need to think of new and better magic. As a designer, I have only 2 or 3 completely original illusions. It's not easy to think up of something totally new.
The problem being : how many different ways can you honestly make something appear or vanish without it becomeing redundant? What should you do, take a 20 pound sledge hammer and smash a t.v. and then magically make it come back together like it was the t-1000? it would be cool but I'd like to hear some of your Ideas that you have. |

I am a guy not a girl. Gracy is the last name of a Walt Disney Illusioneer in the 60's who is credited with the suggestion to use peppers ghost in the Haunted Mansion. the hm in my name are for Haunted Mansion

If memory serves me correctly I know who Gracey is... though some of the things he says and does might lead one to think otherwise, I can assure you he's not only "all boy" but a dang smart one at that!
Now... say goodnight Gracey

I built my own Asrah for under $150, and I used a 3 point hookup. It is my proudest stage creation. In fact the local magic dealer here in town came to one of my public shows and he said I had the most realistic form he's ever seeen. He about dropped when I told him how I built it. Email me and I will gladly tell you how I built my Asrah. I have some video of it I can send ya too!

An asrah for $150 , sounds neat. The asrah is one of my favorite classics.

Hi, Illusionist. If these are the questions on your mind, read The Trick Brain by Dariel Fitzkie. It will blow you away. Simply by reading that book, you will become many times more qualified, more creative and more analytical in creating new effects. Happy inventing! pp |

Kyle! Ugh! You're not the "Gracy" I though you were. Some people around here use other aka type I.D.s and I thought you/Gracy was Luke... Oh Well... another day...

Hello,
I was wondering how you start a new post, I can't seem to find out anywhere. Also, I was reading over the older post, just when "Fearsons Box" came out, and was interested in purchasing it. I watched the demo and was thinking, it wouldn't be able to be performed on a raised stage because of the ...... or is it possible? Also, I was wanting to build a few illusions that don't take up too much space. I am building a tip-over trunk and was curious as to what illusions I should build that have fairly good angle ranges? I saw the books by Andrew Mayne, do they have the illusions I am talking about or are there better books on wide angle, pack small illusions? Thanks, James |

Hi Illusionist,
Maybe you are looking too far away from where you need to. Old torture devices are a good place to start. Only a few of the many types have been done. Even a nice electric chair would be great if you could cut the room lights for a fraction of a second as the victim bursts into flames? Maybe an entire torture chamber set with interchanable props on a solid base?
...think not that all wisdom is in your school. You may have studied other paths, but, it is important to remember that no matter who you are or where you come from, there is always more to learn.

I would like to say a "welcome" to Paula Paul. She slipped into the Cafe without being noticed. A good trick in itself!

I do like the Idea of old torture devices... it could be a fresh start from the old boring Impaler or Spikes of Doom. How about something like the rack?
Mmm.., banana |

BTW... that "old Impalment" Isn't all that old... about 25-years if I recall... there are some very cool variations out there including Ayala's Torch Thru Girl version, one with a Neon Tube that I'm aware of and my variant in which a water fount stream pushes thru and you then penetrate her with your arm to prove the water's route, etc. I also had the opportunity to work the Nocola Spike Cabinet back when Kirkham still had it... a can assure you, that "old stuff" still kick's butt when it's done right! In many cases, better than some of the so-called "new" stuff.
