When going through Air Force survival school, the weekend before we were to go to the woods for a week, I spent the weekend making a net. While everyone else went into town and carbo loading on beers, I stayed in my room and pulled parachute cord apart, strung it between the bunk beds and created a masterpiece. It was five feet wide, two feet deep. The holes were all an inch wide, and inch and a half tall. I had grand visions of feasting upon fish.
Monday morning arrived and with great pride I showed my creation to my instructor as we waited for the bus to take us to the field. He could barely contain his laughter when he explained to me that we wouldn’t be seeing any water wider than a foot, and not likely more than 6 inches deep. In other words, my net would be useless. On the bright side, he was so impressed with my workmanship that he asked if they could include my net in the survival museum on base where they had various survival tools on display. So while I ended up suffering along with the rest of the troops, I was comforted by the fact my work was display for others to see...which really doesn’t help 4 days into the wood without food...

Good story. With the knowledge you have in how to make one, I would venture to guess, that in a survival situation where there was a lake or fish pond, you would be set That is my motivation for posting the video.
